Beyonce, Sabrina Carpenter, and Kendrick Lamar are among the big names in the list of winners for this year’s Grammy Awards.

The 67th Annual Grammy Awards was held on February 2, 2025, at Los Angeles' Crypto.com Arena. Doechii won and made history, while Kendrick Lamar’s win for the best rap performance has rubbed off on Drake’s face. Details are as follows.


Major Winners:

  • Best Album of the Year: Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter
    With her 2025 Grammy win, Beyoncé has made history. Beyonce has become the first Black woman in the 21st century to win ‘Best Album of the Year’. She also grabbed the “Best Country Album” award. 
    In her victory speech, Beyonce said, “I just feel very full and very honored. It's been many, many years, and I just want to thank the Grammys, every songwriter, every collaborator, every producer, all of the hard work.” The ‘Texas Hold 'Em’ singer also expressed gratitude towards Linda Martell.
  • Record and Song of the Year: Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us"
    After the release of his beef tracks about Drizzy Drake, Kendrick was already put forward for major Grammy wins. In the end, Kendrick Lamar swept the Grammys with 5 award wins, including one for ‘Record Of The Year’ and ‘Song Of Year’ for ‘Not Like Us’. The song also earned him the ‘Best Rap Performance’ award, ‘Best Rap Song’ and ‘Best Music Video’.
  • Best Rap Album: Doechii's Alligator Bites Never Heal
    Around 13,000 voting members of the Recording Academy chose “Alligator Bites Never Heal” as the Best Rap Album of the year. Doechii also became the third woman to win the Best Rap Album award after Lauryn Hill and Cardi B. 
    In an emotional speech, Doechii highlighted the significance of the award and her dedication to her work. She also thanked God for her victory and didn’t forget her mother and fans either.
  • Best New Artist: Chappell Roan
    Pop-culture sensation and gay icon, Chappell Roan was honored as Best New Artist. During her acceptance speed, Roan used the platform to advocate for better treatment of artists in the music industry and requested labels to help the struggling new artists with insurance and healthcare.
  • Best Pop Vocal Album: Sabrina Carpenter
    There was no way Sabrina was not going to win a Grammy when even the likes of Adele praised her Short n' Sweet album. Sabrina Carpenter was given two Grammys. Her sixth studio album was named “Best Pop Vocal Album” and she accepted another Gramm for ‘Best Pop Solo Performance’ for "Espresso".
  • Best Latin pop album: Shakira
    Queen of Latin pop, Shakira’s "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” was presented the ‘Best Latin Pop Album’ award by Jennifer Lopez. That said, Columbian music artists were up against Anitta, Kany García, and others. Early in her speech, Shakira thanked “immigrant brothers and sisters”.
  • Posthumous Grammy Awards: Jimmy Carter
    Almost a month after his death, Jimmy Carter made history by winning the fourth Grammy and setting a record in the ‘Best Audiobook, Narration, and Story Telling’ category. The Posthumous Grammy was accepted by his grandson Jason Carter.

Reactions:

The night was filled with memorable moments, from Beyoncé's stunned reaction to her win, which became a viral sensation, to Taylor Swift and Jay-Z toasting her victory.  The award show also gave significant attention to LA fires and raised around $7 million for relief efforts, as announced by Grammy Awards 2025 host, Trevor Noah.
Besides that, fans are digging the wins for this year. AfricanKhaIeesi posted a meme on X teasing Drake for Kendrick’s win. 

 Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga’s win for the “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” reignited the debate about LGBTQ+ rights and the suffering of trans people under Trump’s administration which has passed an executive order to remove the third gender from its policies.
