President Donald Trump signed over 200 executive orders on the first day of his second term. It brings a drastic policy shift from former President Joe Biden’s administration. And these are some of the biggest policies he's signed.
Immigration and Border Security
Trump fulfilled what he promised his MAGA base during the campaign. He decided to tighten up immigration policies and declared a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border. The new President ordered the deployment of military forces to enhance border security. He reinstated the "Remain in Mexico" policy, requiring asylum seekers to wait in Mexico during U.S. immigration proceedings.
Birthright Citizenship And New Bans
President Donald Trump announced plans to end birthright citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants and those whose parents are not American. It goes against the US Constitution’s 14th Amendment and the Trump administration now faces lawsuits from 22 states against the same action.
Demographics such as Indians are likely to feel the brunt of the new policy by Trump's new birthright policy. Besides that, President Trump has also designated certain gangs and cartels as terrorist organizations like Tren de Aragua and MS-13.
Energy and Environmental Policies
Following his campaign promises, Donald Trump plans to increase oil production in the US alleging an “energy emergency” in the country. For the boost in domestic energy production, Trump lifted restrictions on oil and gas drilling. He also withdrew the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement, once again. Hence, ignoring the impending climate change crises being observed through the California fires.
Trump has also threatened to withhold aid for the LA fire crisis in his first TV interview as President with Fox News host, Sean Hannity.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Initiatives/Programs
The second Trump administration eliminated federal diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, legally recognizing only two genders. Federal agencies have been asked to send employees under the DEI programs to send on paid leaves effective immediately, CNN reported. This action aims to redefine gender policies within federal institutions and has sparked discussions on civil rights implications.
Government Efficiency, Pardons, and TikTok
Trump established the Department of Government Efficiency, appointing Elon Musk to lead efforts to reduce federal bureaucracy. Furthermore, he issued pardons for approximately 1,500 individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol attack. It includes the 'QAnon Shaman' Jacob Chansley who commented on X, “I GOT A PARDON BABY! THANK YOU PRESIDENT TRUMP!!! NOW I AM GONNA BUY SOME MOTHA FU*KIN GUNS!!! I LOVE THIS COUNTRY!!!”
I JUST GOT THE NEWS FROM MY LAWYER...

Meanwhile, Trump halts the complete ban on TikTok in the US. With a new executive order, he gives Chinese social media app 75 an extension to figure out a deal and a solution for its ownership with a potential US partner. He said he wouldn’t mind if Elon Musk or Larry Ellison wanted to buy TikTok.
Healthcare and International Relations
President Trump withdrew the U.S. from the World Health Organization, once again. Sparking global debate on America’s foreign aid, aligning with his "America First" policy stance. UN agencies regret the decision and WHO spokesperson Tarik Jasarevic issued a statement calling the US to reconsider the withdrawal.
So what’s next?
These sweeping executive orders represent a comprehensive effort by the Trump administration to overturn the majority of decisions by Joe Biden. Some think tanks such as the Heritage Foundation have been alleged to have influenced Donald Trump’s new policy agenda which is starting to co-align with a few aims from the infamous Project 2025.
Given the presence of numerous billionaires at his inauguration and losing of federal restrictions on labor, privacy, energy, and taxes, Donald Trump has made it clear who he plans to reward in upcoming years.
