After entering the top 10 in 2018 with ‘Die Lit’ and claiming his no. 1 spot with his 2021 album ‘Whole Lotta Red’, Playboi Carti has managed to bag another no.1 spot as his new album ‘MUSIC’ debuts atop.

American rapper Playboi Carti’s ‘MUSIC’ sold a total of 298,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending March 20, according to Luminate. Of the total 298,000 units sold, SEA units comprise 283,000 (equaling 384 million on-demand official streams of the 30 songs on the streaming edition of the album; it debuts at No. 1 on the Top Streaming Albums chart), album sales comprise 14,500 (it debuts at No. 3 on Top Album Sales) and TEA units comprise 500.
Announced officially on Sept. 12, 2024, the album was released on March 14 and debuted on the Billboard 200 largely from streaming activity since it was only available to purchase as a digital download. The album is available as a 30-song set, and there are three variants exclusive to the artist’s official website (the variants each have between one or two bonus tracks).
The album will also be available as an array of deluxe boxed sets (containing branded merch and a CD) that have been available to pre-order on his website since last September.

This is Playboi Carti’s second album to debut at the top of the Billboard 200. It also marks the biggest week in 2025 for a rap album and the second largest overall among all albums. The record for the largest album is held by The Weeknd’s ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ which debuted at 490,000 units (Feb. 15 chart). As for the Billboard 200, Lady Gaga’s MAYHEM falls to No. 2 in its second week on the Billboard 200, earning 74,000 equivalent album units (down 66%).
The top 10 Billboard 200 now has Lady Gaga fallen to the second spot while the next six titles are all former no.1’s. Kendrick Lamar’s ‘GNX’ charts at number 3 followed by Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR’s ‘$ome $exy $ongs 4 U’, SZA’s SOS, singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Short n’ Sweet’, Tata McRae’s ‘So Close To What’, and Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny’s ‘Debí Tirar Más Fotos’.
