In an unexpected turn of events, tech entrepreneur Elon Musk and popular Twitch streamer Asmongold have become involved in a public argument about gaming credentials, specifically for the action role-playing game Path of Exile 2.
Allegations of Account Sharing
The argument began when Asmongold, actual name Zack, accused Musk of not personally upgrading his Path of Exile 2 character to level 97, implying instead that Musk used account-sharing practices. Asmongold added, "I believe he is account-sharing for sure. Trying to have someone play your account and make people believe you're a genuine, actual gamer is ridiculous. It is embarrassing. "Extremely fucking lame." He expressed this through his youtube channel.
The Challenge Issued
To substantiate his claims, Asmongold offered a bold challenge: if Musk could demonstrate that he personally attained level 97 without assistance, Asmongold would commit to streaming exclusively on X (previously Twitter) for a year.
Musk's Response and Escalation
In response, Musk revealed private direct communications between himself and Asmongold in an attempt to disprove the streamer's charges. Musk responded to the criticism by addressing the charges on the social media platform X (previously Twitter). He shared private direct communications between himself and Asmongold in an attempt to disprove the streamer's charges.
In these messages, Musk implied that Asmongold was not as independent as he claimed, implying that he needed permission from his editors to voice certain viewpoints. This decision attracted additional criticism, as disclosing private discussions without agreement is often frowned upon and, in certain circumstances, violates platform norms. He also removed the blue checkmark from Asmon's Twitter account and unfollowed him.
I’m on hundreds of streams on YouTube/Twitch playing live with the world’s best players.
No other way to say this, but, while Asmon IS good at caustic commentary and making fun of people, he is NOT good at video games 🤷♂️— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) January 16, 2025
Community Reactions
The gaming community has been abuzz with discussions about the feud. Many gamers, and streamers came forward to support asmon, and expressing their views and opinions through their streams. Twitch streamer, XQC, also talked about the ongoing beef between elon and asmon.
