Scarlett Johansson is all set to star in the upcoming Jurassic World Rebirth alongside Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali. While this marks Johansson’s debut in the “Jurassic World” franchise, she revealed her struggles to bag the role in her latest interview with Vanity Fair.
Fan of the franchise
Talking to Vanity Fair, Johansson revealed how big of a fan she was of the franchise and that she would send trade reports about new Jurassic Park movies to her agents to let them know that she was “available”. “I was really crazy about the [original] film, and I slept in a Jurassic Park pup tent in my bedroom I shared with my sister for a year,” she adds.
She also talked about the time when she was reshooting for “Black Widow” in 2020 at the Pinewood Studios in Britain, next to a soundstage filming “Jurassic World Dominion.” She recalls telling her team “Show me the sets! I want to participate!”
Meeting Spielberg
Her craze for the franchise eventually landed her a meeting with the director of the original Jurassic Park and its sequel, Steven Spielberg. Johansson recalls her meeting with the director that went on for several hours with Spielberg eventually bringing up the franchise. “I hadn’t really sat with him and talked about work, and we spent hours just catching up and chatting, and then at some point, many hours into it, he was like, ‘Wait, we’re supposed to talk about “Jurassic.” Do I hear you’re a huge superfan?'” Johansson recalled. “I said, ‘It is actually true. I’m confirming. I’m a huge superfan.’”
Johansson also recalls how she didn’t want the director to think of her as some “weird stalker” and hence stopped short of telling Spielberg her “Jurassic Park” tent story. Johansson says “Obviously with all the ‘Avengers’ stuff you meet so many fans who are profoundly moved by the characters and the world that you’re a part of.”
She adds “I get it. It’s always wonderful to meet people like that. I probably should have just told him. But I was like, ‘Just be professional. Don’t seem desperate. Don’t mention the tent.’”
Jurassic World Rebirth
Jurassic World Rebirth is set to hit the theatres this summer and will feature Scarlett Johansson playing Zora Bennet, a former mercenary leading a group of scientists to retrieve dinosaur blood with the potential to cure heart disease. The movie will be a standalone sequel to the previous installment Jurassic World Dominion (2025) and will be directed by Gareth Edwards.
