Michelle Trachtenberg, the beloved actress known for her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl, has died at the age of 39. She was found unresponsive in her Manhattan apartment on Wednesday morning. According to the New York City Police Department, emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
Trachtenberg had recently undergone a liver transplant, according to the New York Post. While the official cause of death has not been confirmed, authorities stated that no foul play is suspected.
In a statement, her publicist, Gary Mantoosh, said,

Born on October 11, 1985, in New York City, Trachtenberg began acting as a toddler. At just three years old, she appeared in commercials before landing her first television role on Nickelodeon’s The Adventures of Pete & Pete in the mid-1990s.
She rose to fame as the star of Harriet the Spy (1996), playing the role of a young girl with a passion for detective work. However, her breakthrough came in 2000 when she joined Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Dawn Summers, the younger sister of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Buffy. She remained on the show until its conclusion in 2003.
In 2008, she gained further recognition as Georgina Sparks on Gossip Girl, a manipulative and unpredictable character that became a fan favorite. She appeared in a recurring role on the series until its finale in 2012 and later reprised the role for HBO Max’s reboot in 2022.
