President Donald Trump has once again drawn global criticism after a video surfaced of him doubling down on his controversial plan for Gaza.

In the footage, Trump reinforced his position that Palestinians should not be allowed to return to Gaza while also suggesting that the war-torn region could be transformed into a large-scale real estate development.

The video, widely circulated online, comes just weeks after Trump stated in a Fox News interview that Palestinians displaced by the ongoing conflict should be permanently resettled elsewhere.

No, they wouldn't [return], because they're going to have much better housing, much better. In other words, I'm talking about building a permanent place for them. Because if they have to return now, it'll be years before you could ever — it's not habitable. It could be years before it could happen.

No Right of Return for Palestinians

During his Fox News interview, Trump made it clear that under his vision, Palestinians would not be allowed to return to Gaza. He insisted that they would be better off relocated to other areas, potentially in neighboring countries like Jordan and Egypt. “I think I could make a deal with Jordan, I think I could make a deal with Egypt,” he claimed. However, both countries have already rejected previous suggestions of resettling Gaza refugees within their borders.

Trump’s remarks directly contradict U.S. officials who previously stated that any relocation of Palestinians would be temporary. His position also dismisses the long-standing demand for Palestinian refugees to have the right to return to their homeland, a key issue in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Gaza as a Real Estate Development Project

Perhaps the most shocking part of Trump’s statements was his comparison of Gaza to a real estate opportunity. “Think of it as a real estate development for the future. It would be a beautiful piece of land,” Trump said. “No big money spent.”

Trump, a former real estate developer, has long framed policy discussions in business terms. However, critics argue that his comments show a disregard for the millions of displaced Palestinians and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Strong Backlash

Trump’s remarks have been met with widespread condemnation. Palestinian officials were quick to reject the idea that Gaza was “for sale.” A spokesperson for Hamas called Trump’s comments “absurd” and a sign of “deep ignorance” about Palestinian history and rights.

The Palestinian Authority’s foreign ministry also denounced Trump’s proposal, stating, “The rights of our people and our land are not for sale, exchange, or bargaining.”

The United Nations warned that any forced displacement of civilians from occupied territory is illegal under international law and could be considered ethnic cleansing. Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz also criticized Trump’s comments, calling the idea of permanently displacing Palestinians a “scandal” and a violation of international law.

Trump supporter's reaction to AI video

The AI video about Gaza has also unsettled his support base. Many of his supporters took to social media platforms, including Instagram, to express their disapproval. Comments such as "Okay maybe I should've voted for Kamala," "I'm a Trump supporter and what the fuck is this....," and "As a Trump supporter, horrible post" reflect a sense of betrayal and confusion among his followers.

Support from Israel

Despite the backlash, Trump’s plan found support from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. At a cabinet meeting, Netanyahu called Trump’s proposal “revolutionary and creative,” stating that it aligned with Israel’s long-term security interests.

“For a full year, we have been told that on the ‘day after,’ the Palestinian Authority needs to govern Gaza,” Netanyahu said. “President Trump came with a completely different vision, much better for the State of Israel.”

Context and Broader Implications

Trump’s comments come amid a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, following months of conflict that have left more than 48,200 Palestinians dead, according to Gaza’s health ministry. The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire, with severe shortages of food, water, medicine, and shelter.

Many Palestinians fear that Trump’s remarks signal an attempt to permanently displace them, drawing comparisons to the Nakba (“catastrophe”) of 1948, when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were forced from their homes.

As President Trump continues to push his vision for Gaza, international leaders, human rights groups, and Palestinian communities are voicing strong opposition. Whether his proposal gains any traction remains to be seen, but it has already added further controversy to the ongoing conflict and discussions about Gaza’s future.
