President Donald Trump has officially ended Secret Service protection for former President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, and daughter, Ashley Biden.

The announcement came on Monday via a post on Truth Social, where Trump criticized the expenses associated with Hunter’s security detail during his vacation in South Africa.

Trump’s Decision

While touring the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., on Monday, Trump was asked about the Secret Service protection provided to Hunter Biden. Hours later, he took to Truth Social, stating that the protection for Hunter Biden and Ashley Biden would be revoked “immediately.”

Trump specifically called Hunter Biden’s recent Secret Service detail in South Africa “ridiculous,” questioning why taxpayers should fund his security while he was on vacation. Reports indicated that Hunter Biden was accompanied by Secret Service agents during his trip, sparking criticism from conservatives.

Additionally, Trump revealed that Ashley Biden had 13 agents assigned to her security detail, which he deemed unnecessary. The move is consistent with Trump’s previous decisions to revoke Secret Service protection for former government officials, including Mark Esper, Mike Pompeo, and Dr. Anthony Fauci, arguing that these resources should be limited.

Secret Service Protection Rules

Under U.S. law, former presidents and their spouses receive lifelong Secret Service protection, while their children are only covered until they turn 16 unless an extension is granted. However, sitting presidents can authorize extended protection for their adult children beyond this age.

Joe Biden, before leaving office, extended Secret Service protection for Hunter Biden, 55, and Ashley Biden, 43. This extension ensured they continued receiving security coverage even after Biden’s presidency ended. Trump, now in office, has exercised his authority to revoke this protection.

Political Implications

Trump’s decision comes at a time when Hunter Biden remains under intense scrutiny from Republicans. His financial troubles have been widely reported, with recent court filings revealing he is in significant debt and does not have a permanent residence. His past legal issues, including tax evasion and federal gun charges, also continue to make headlines.

Before leaving office, President Joe Biden issued a controversial pardon for his son, sparking further debate. Trump and his allies have repeatedly criticized Biden’s decision, framing it as an abuse of presidential power.

By revoking Hunter Biden’s Secret Service protection, President Trump has further signaled his administration’s stance on reducing federal resources for figures linked to his political opponents. The move may also intensify political divisions, as Democratic allies of Biden are likely to push back against the decision.

What’s Next?

With the Secret Service detail now revoked, it remains to be seen how the Biden family will respond to this decision.

The move also raises broader questions about the security of political figures and their families in a highly polarized environment.
