The recent foreclosure of Kevin Spacey's waterfront home in Baltimore has left everybody with their Real Estate spoons in the air. After losing his lavish 9,000-square-foot residence in a public auction, Spacey is reportedly refusing to vacate the property despite it now being under new ownership.
Sam Asgari, an investor who paid $3.24 million for the mansion at a foreclosure auction, is currently discussing Spacey's departure with his legal team. "Right now, he's refusing to leave," Asgari shared, adding that Spacey is seeking a six-month extension to stay without paying any rent.
The price of fame and financial troubles
Spacey originally bought the mansion in 2017 for $5.65 million while filming "House of Cards." Nevertheless, his financial problems worsened after he was fired from the popular show due to several accusations of sexual misconduct.
The actor eventually experienced foreclosure as a result of his incapacity to make the substantial $20,230 monthly mortgage payments. In a heartfelt interview with Piers Morgan in June, Spacey acknowledged he was deeply in debt and had no idea where he would live next.
Lawyers and real estate melodrama
Asgari's acquisition of the mansion came as a surprise to many, especially given the discounted price. However, the investor soon regretted his decision as Spacey refused to quit and this seemed to lead to a legal battle. As Asgari tried to negotiate with Spacey's legal team, the actor also refuted the accusations through his lawyer, claiming that they were entirely false. For Asgari, the next steps are waiting for the court to approve the sale and then possibly begin the process of evicting the tenants.
The lawsuit over the ownership of the mansion is still going on, and therefore, Spacey's future hangs in the balance. These financial troubles, coupled with the probability of being evicted from his house, portray a grim future for the once-prominent actor. However, for Asgari, nothing has changed since he is still bent on reselling the property and continuing a new chapter in the history of this Baltimore home.
