Kevin Durant led the Men’s Basketball team through the final in the 2024 Summer Olympics and shortly after cut a business deal with PSG. The two-time NBA champion, on Monday, bought a minor stake in the French elite football club.

PSG deal finalized

Rumors started flying as soon as Paris Saint-Germain, through their official X handle shared a picture of Kevin Durant visiting the campus on August 10. However, the majority of the focus was on the next day’s Basketball final game, and boy oh boy, the US team ensured their fifth consecutive gold thanks to Stephen Curry’s late heroics
Shortly after the win, Kevin shifted his attention to some serious business and finalized a purchase of a minor and undisclosed stake at Kylian Mbappe’s former club. Reports state that Durant met the PSG boss Nasser Al-Khelaifi and the deal was already half closed. The confirmation came on August 13 when Durant’s business arm, Boardroom Sports shared a post on X announcing the investment.

Kevin diversifies his portfolio

Some reports state that through this collaboration, Kevin joins the likes of Olympic teammate Lebron James who owns a stake at Liverpool FC, and James Harden who co-owns Houston Dynamo. However, this isn’t Kevin Durant's first rodeo as he already owns a 5% stake in the MLS side Philadelphia Union and is a minority owner of Gotham, the reigning NWSL champions.
Basically with this deal, Kevin diversified his investment portfolio which will reduce the overall risk for him. At the same time, this could prove to be a great way to increase the net worth of the basketball legend who is currently the 12th highest-paid athlete in the world with a figure of $300M.
Although Paris Saint-Germain, with $4.4 billion worth, had to let go of their star player Mbappe who joined Real Madrid this season, it is expected that the French club will be able to increase its value eventually. Moreover, owning a stake in a globally recognized club, even though the figure is in single digit million, Durant has enhanced his brand value which will lead to lucrative endorsement deals in the future.
