Federal prosecutors have charged Chicago rapper Lil Durk, born Durk Banks, with a 2022 murder-for-hire scheme that ended in the killing of Saviay'a Robinson, the cousin of fellow musician Quando Rondo. The event occurred outside Los Angeles' Beverly Center, and authorities believe Banks plotted the plot in vengeance for the 2020 murder of his close associate, King Von.

Legal Proceedings and Charges

On October 25, 2024, Banks was detained in Florida while attempting to flee the nation. He is charged with a number of federal offenses, including conspiracy to use interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death and using and firing guns in a violent crime that results in death. If convicted, he may face up to life in prison.

Denial of Bond

After being arrested, Banks was extradited to Los Angeles, where he pleaded not guilty to all counts. During a bond hearing, the court denied his plea for release, noting the seriousness of the charges and the possibility of escape. Banks remains in federal detention awaiting trial.

Defense's Position

Banks' legal team claims that the prosecution lacks meaningful evidence and criticizes the reliance on his rap lyrics as proof of criminal intent. Attorney Drew Findling underlined that artistic expression should not be confused with actual activity, claiming that the charges are baseless.
