One of the most memorable moments that sparked speculation about Eminem’s sexuality was his appearance in the controversial movie The Interview, starring Seth Rogen and James Franco. In a scene from the film, Franco’s character, a quirky interviewer named David Skylark, quotes Eminem’s controversial lyrics and asks about their meaning. In response, Eminem humorously explains that his words are often misinterpreted—particularly when it comes to references to gay people—before casually revealing that he identifies as gay. While this was meant as a joke, it left many wondering if there was some truth behind his words.

Unreleased Coming Out Song

Another instance that fueled speculation occurred when Eminem and fellow rapper Joyner Lucas recorded an unreleased track titled “What If I Was Gay.” The song, which was leaked online in 2019 and again in 2022 with slight changes to Eminem’s verse, presents a narrative where Joyner is the openly gay person and Eminem is his Christian friend who disapproves of his sexuality. The story takes a dark turn, leading to Joyner’s suicide, only to be followed by a twist revealing that Eminem, too, is gay. While the song was never officially released, its concept generated further conversation about Eminem’s personal views and identity.

In the past, Eminem has been married twice to his ex-wife Kim Mathers, with whom he has a daughter, Hailey Jade.
