Drake has filed a second lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG) in response to the contentious release of Kendrick Lamar's song "Not Like Us." The Canadian rapper has accused UMG of defamation, saying that the words in Lamar's song are "false" and damaging his reputation. This current court battle follows a long-running rivalry between the two artists, increasing tensions in the hip-hop community.

Defamation And False Accusations In Lamar’s Song

Drake's complaint is around the song "Not Like Us," which was released in May of this year. The song has sparked controversy among fans, with many seeing the lyrics as a direct attack on Drake's persona and reputation in the rap game. The song contains critical phrases that critics believe are about Drake's career, criticizing him of "fake" behavior, being inauthentic, and lacking lyrical substance.

Champagne Papi claims in his legal petition that these statements are false and defamatory. His lawyers argue that the accusations contained in the song are detrimental to Drake's public image, implying that Lamar purposefully invented such claims to fuel the two artists' continuing dispute. "These false statements made by Kendrick Lamar and promoted by Universal Music Group have resulted in serious harm to my client's career," one of Drake's lawyers claimed in a public statement.

Drake’s Previous Legal Actions: A Continuing Feud with UMG

Drake's current defamation lawsuit is the second he has filed against Universal Music Group in recent months. The first lawsuit was filled earlier this week, accusing the company of cooperation in manipulating streaming data to increase Kendrick Lamar's music's popularity. Drake has singled out UMG in both lawsuits for its role in what he believes was an unfair and intentional attempt to ruin his reputation and career.

Kendrick Lamar’s Response: Silence on the Allegations

As of yet, K-Dot has not responded to Drake's charges. Lamar has not issued any public statements regarding the lawsuit or the charges stated in his song. Given Lamar's history of utilizing music to express his opinions on a variety of social and political problems, many believe the lines in "Not Like Us" were purposefully written to create controversy. It's unclear whether the lyrics were intended as a direct attack on Drake or as part of Lamar's larger creative critique.

Lamar's silence on the subject has only fueled conjecture, with fans and industry insiders hungry for a statement from the Grammy-winning rapper.
