The Guardians of the Galaxy actor Dave Bautista recently talked about the character of Drax The Destroyer and whether he would reprise his role after he publicly quit the role.
Drax The Destroyer
Dave Bautista portrayed the character of Drax The Destroyer in the Guardians of The Galaxy trilogy under the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The trilogy, directed by James Gunn, saw Bautista playing a kind and slightly air-headed superhuman.
With the third installment putting an end to the character, Bautista announced that he would no longer portray the character, citing age and fitness requirements as reasons.
However, the way the trilogy ends also leaves room for many characters from the movie including Drax to be explored in another MCU installment. This begs the question of whether Bautista will give Drax another chance.
One Condition
Bautista while talking to ComicBook shared his views on whether he would be open to returning for the role. He says “Drax is completely closed to me. Unless James Gunn called me and asked if I would do something as Drax again, I just wouldn’t be interested. If James called me, which obviously is not gonna happen. He’s doing okay, he’s gone a different route.”
He further talks about portraying a superhero. “I do wanna be in that world, I’m a fan of that world, I’m a fan of comic books and that whole universe,” Bautista said. “Marvel, DC, I just wanna be in it. I made that known to James, I made that known to the Russo brothers. Personally, I talked to them, all of them, and told them, ‘Don’t count me out. If there’s a character that I’d be right for and that you want me for, man, I’d be totally open-minded to it.’ It’s just the Drax character ran its course.”
With James Gunn being busy building up the DC universe from scratch and Bautista not too keen to do it without him, we don’t see a possibility for Bautista to return as Drax.
