The Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah's, car collection is a jigsaw puzzle that can only be completed when other sub-car collections are pieced together. That said. Sultan has around 300 Ferraris in his garage, each unique in its own way.
He has worked with the Italian automaker and funded specific projects, such as the Ferrari F50 GT, by himself.
Images were clicked by an auction photographer and date back to 2001, as claimed by Motor1. However, it can't be said for sure.
The main source for these leaked images seems to be the ‘brunei_cars_2001’ account on Instagram, which posted an entire Google Drive link filled with numerous cars owned by the Sultan.
Ferrari F40 Collection

The Sultan's impressive array of Ferraris includes a notable collection of Ferrari F40s. Reports indicate that he had bought around 11 F40s models. All were customized under the supervision of the Pininfarina Prototype Manager at Pininfarina, Paolo Garella.
The Sultan also owns two of the nineteen Michelotto F40 LMs, one of which was bought in 1992. Including one Ferrari LM, three Ferraris from Sultan’s garage have exchanged ownership.
In 1996, the original F40 LM passed through four ownerships before sitting in Shinji Takei’s car collection.
Meanwhile, Brunei’s royal team sold two RHD yellow and matte grey F40s back to John Collins, a Ferrari dealer and a specialist from the UK. Currently, Sultan’s car collection has the F40 LM in black color with chassis number ZFFGX34X0L0088523.
Ferrari F40 (Chassis Number: ZFFGJ34B000080756)
In 1989, this F40 came with a standard left-hand driver, a red interior, and an exterior painted in Rosso Corsa, which was the only color it was being sold in in Europe.
Eventually, it was sold to Brunei’s Sultan, who asked Pininfarina to repaint the car in green metallic paint and make it right-hand drive.
The old red interior was replaced with a full leather pale green theme. Furthermore, among the changes, a new central control panel with AC controls was installed.
Ferrari F40 (Chassis Number: ZFFGJ34B000085074)
Unlike some other models, the F40 with 85074 chassis number was kept left-hand drive. This particular model left the factory in 1990 and reached Pininfarina for a full makeover.
A new central control panel with air conditioning controls was put in, the cabin featured full Nero leather upholstery with Rosso piping, and the electric windows were installed.
Ferrari F40 (Chassis Number: ZFFGJ34B000091283)
The F40 with 91283 chassis was a standard model that was also sent to Pininfarina for customization. It was converted to a right-hand drive.
The outside was painted in a charcoal color with a red swage line. From door panels to the transmission tunnel, the design house worked on everything.
It also installed a new control panel with AC controls.
Ferrari 456 Series

Demonstrating his penchant for exclusivity, the Sultan has ordered multiple one-off 456 Series cars to keep in his garage that are worth billions while Ferrari was selling regular 456 2+2 coupe versions.
According to Classic Driver, in the 1990s, the Sultan of Brunei ordered Ferrari 456 models.
It includes seven models of three different iterations (saloon, spyder, and Venice) of the mother model “Ferrari 456 GT Venice” with some of them receiving custom bodywork by Pininfarina.
Apparently, these cars were being built while another one of the Sultan’s orders, “Mythos,” was near completion.
The Ferrari 456 GT came in four-door saloon/sedan and convertible versions called the Ferrari 456 GT Spyder body styles. The last remaining one is the Ferrari 456 GT Venice, which is a five-door station wagon and was ordered by the Sultan’s brother, Prince Jefri Bolkiah.
One of the seven models is in the hands of an unknown Ferrari collector. Around $1.5 million was spent on each 456 GT Venice. Furthermore, it was also the first time Ferrari ever built an estate car.
Besides that, one Ferrari 456 GT ‘Venice Cabriolet’ is currently at the Marconi Automotive Museum.
Another silver 456 Venice model was spotted in San Francisco in 2022. All said, sources also claim that the head of Brunei’s royal family also owns around 16 Ferrari 456 GTAs (only 403 units were ever built).
Here are some of the 456 models, their colors, and their chassis numbers.
- Ferrari F456 GT Estate Car in black - ZFFSP44C000103261
- Ferrari F456 GT Sedan in green - ZFFWP44C000107639
- Ferrari F456 GT Spider in Yellow - ZFFWP44C000104626
Ferrari F90

Prince Jefri Bolkiah, the son of Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III, was responsible for the development of the F90. He wanted a Testarossa chassis-based supercar, rare and limited. Later on, he ended up becoming a top client for Pininfarina.
The F90 was a secret project in the hands of Enrico Fumia, head of the R&D department at Pininfarina. Ferrari kept things secret until 1988, when news about the F90 was leaked. In total, six F90s were made. This model represents a departure from Ferrari's traditional designs of its time.
In the leaked images, four models: blue (chassis number ZFFAA17C000086626), red (ZFFAA17C000088171), silver (chassis number ZFFAA17C000087195), and grey (ZFFAA17C000086784) are visible.
Ferrari Mythos

The Sultan and his brother, Jefri, were responsible for the Ferrari Mythos being out of its “concept form” and underpinned the Ferrari Testarossa.
There are three Mythos in existence (including the prototype), out of which the one with the black paint is in Jefri Bolkiah's possession. He is the actual owner of the majority of the cars associated with the current Sultan.
The remaining two are in red and blue. The design of the car was inspired by the Ferrari Testarossa. The Mythos was shorter and narrower than the Testarossa but did have a similar long front overhang.
All were built by Pininfarina, which included the use of lightweight resin and composite body panels made out of carbon fiber.
The concept car was first unveiled at the 1989 Tokyo Motor Show. Having said that, the chassis numbers for the Mythos end with EFH103, EFH089, and EFI118.
Ferrari FX

In pursuit of automotive innovation and to give a unique car as a gift, the Sultan commissioned the Ferrari FX (chassis 103396) for Pengiran Muda Abdul Hakeem, his nephew, and Jefri Bolkiah's son. It was an ultra-secretive project, but images of the car ended up being leaked.
However, the car was originally a Ferrari F512M, the famous iteration of the Ferrari Testarossa.
Close to six cars are in Sultan's garage. Meanwhile, one of the canceled FX (the fourth car) has ended up in the Marconi Automotive Museum which is owned and managed by a private collector, Dick Marconi.
The chassis numbers for some of the Sultan’s FXs are ZFFBA40C000101368 (in black), ZFFVA40C000103957 (in yellow), and ZFFL440C000099665 (in red).
Ferrari 550 Maranello

The Sultan owns multiple Ferrari 550, a limited-production roadster with the 550 Maranello specs in different colors. In the leaked images, around nine 550 Maranellos can be identified.
- Three in black with chassis numbers: ZFFZR49B000110257, ZFFZR49C000107890, and ZFFZR49C000107620
- Two in red with chassis numbers: ZFFZR49B000110086 and ZFFZR49B000105969
There are also at least 550s in blue, grey, yellow, and silver colors.
According to Michael Sheehan, who has visited the Sultan’s guarded car collection, each 550 was equipped with an experimental XTRAC automatic transmission. Nearly six had infrared cameras for night drives, radar-absorbent, and matte-black coatings.
Ferrari Testarossa

Sultan is particularly obsessed with Testarossa. He owns numerous models with different iterations, such as 512 TRs and 512 Ms. One 512 TR is in black with chassis number ZFFLA40C000099236, while the other one in yellow has ZFFLA40C000094631 on its chassis.
His garage reportedly houses at least seventeen Testarossa cars, which have filled multiple rows on a single floor, many of which have right-hand driving.
If you stroll around a bit more, nearly fifteen Ferrari TR Spyders, which were the later modern version of the car, will be standing before you.
Besides that, out of the seven Testarossa spiders built by the Italian design house Pininfarina, one was put on sale by auction house RM Sotheby’s. The 1990 Ferrari Testarossa Pininfarina Spider ‘Special Production’ was sold for nearly $1.8 million.
The rest of the pack, painted in blue, red, green, white, and other colors, are likely still in the Sultan’s garage.
Ferrari 250 GTO

The 250 GTO is one of the rarest Ferraris out there. Even the top collectors like David Lee can’t have it, and here, the Sultan of Brunei owns not one but two 250 GTO models out of the 36 units. One of his 250 GTOs is painted in red.
The value of the 250 GTOs keeps soaring. In a private sale, the 1963 250 GTO (chassis 4153GT) was sold for around $70 million, making it the most expensive Ferrari ever sold. How much do you think the Sultan's Ferrari would fetch?
Ferrari 288 GTO

From David Letterman to Ian Poulter, there are fans of the 288 GTO everywhere, and Brunei’s Sultan is no exception. He owns four out of which three 288 GTOs are in red (chassis number: ZFFPA16B000056641), charcoal (chassis number: ZFFPA16B000055671), and blue (chassis number: ZFFPA16B000056655) colors.
In 1985, the blue 288 GTO, which was originally painted Rosso Corsa, was first bought by Filea SpA, a financial services company based in Como, Italy. It was passed down by two owners before reaching the Brunei royal family in 1993.
Like the other 288 GTO models, it was also sent to Pininfarina for customization, which changed its color to Indiana Blue paint.
Meanwhile, another one of the 288 GTOs with chassis number 55671 was traded twice before being purchased by the Sultan and his team. The 288 GTO was sold by Loxwood Motor Company to a Hong Kong collector.
After coming to Brunei, it was sent to the Italian design company, Pininfarina, for a color change and to convert it into a right-hand drive car. Lastly, the collection has a Ferrari 288 GTO Evoluzione model in red as well.
Ferrari F355

There are close to 24 F355 models in the Sultan of Brunei’s car collection. From the leaks, we have seen three models.
There is a Spyder model in yellow (chassis number: ZFFPR48C000103173), and the same color is also on the Targa top version called 355 GTS (chassis number: ZFFPZ42C000100301).
Meanwhile, the last is painted in black (chassis number: ZFFPA41C000000168). It is likely that the rest of the pack also includes 2-door Berlinetta variants.
Ferrari 212 Inter

The Ferrari 212 Inter is the Beyonce of its time. Between 1951 and 1952, 82 units were made. One 212 Inter is in the Sultan of Brunei's garage complex. The 212 Inter has an average market value of $1.2 million.
Meanwhile, other royalties around the world have also taken an interest in it. One 1953 Ferrari 212 Inter Pininfarina Coupe, which used to belong to Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, husband of Queen Juliana, was put up for auction.
Ferrari 275

Three examples of the iconic 275 GTB, a classic grand tourer from the 1960s, stand peacefully in the Sultan’s collection.
Details about these being twin-car or four-cams are yet to be revealed. Meanwhile, there is also a Ferrari 275 GTS model with a bright red color and a black removable top.
The 275 GTS has a chassis number ending with 779, which belongs to the Enzo and is incredibly rare since only 19 models with the right-hand drive were made. It also has a radio system and air conditioning.
Ferrari 308

The Ferrari 308 was offered in either Berlinetta (GTB) or Targa Top (GTS). There are only two units reportedly staying in the Sultan’s car compound.
He owns models with both body styles. One of his 308 GTS convertibles has a chassis number ZFFLA13C000047409, while the GTB coupe version is the ZFFLA13C000058487.
Ferrari 328

Like several other Ferraris, the Ferrari 328 was also sold in GTB and GTS versions. There are nine units of this model in Hassanal Bolkiah’s car collection. Reportedly, there are at least two GTB (coupe) and two GTS (convertible) models.
- Ferrari 328 GTB with chassis number ZFFWA19C000065397
- Ferrari 328 GTS with chassis numbers ZFFZA28B000081307 and ZFFWA20C000066055
Additionally, one of Sultan’s 328 has been customized by Koenig Specials, a German company from Munich.
Ferrari 348

The 348 was a mid-engine Ferrari sold from 1989 to 1995. Out of the 8,844 produced units, Sultan owns 13 of them, and one of them is the 1993 Ferrari 348 Spider in yellow paint (chassis number ZFFUA43C000097262).
Overall, the collective value of the set is over $1 million. Here are some additional chassis numbers for some of Sultan’s 348 GTS models.
- ZFFKA36C000085669
- ZFFKA36000085871
For GTB or TB models,
- ZFFKA35C00086066
- ZFFUA43C000097262
- ZFFUA43C000097784
Ferrari 400

The Ferrari 400 succeeded the 365 GT4 2+2. It featured carburetors, which were later on replaced by fuel-injectors in the 400 i model.
Sultan owns two 400s and one unit of the 400 i model (chassis number ZFFEB06C000054411).
That said, the 400 series has been the subject of harsh criticism. It has been placed in the 18th position on the list of ‘the crappest car in Britain’ by BBC.
Ferrari 412

After the Ferrari 400 came the 412 with slightly bigger cylinders. It was offered with manual and automatic gearboxes, just like its predecessors. For some reason, the monarch of Brunei has two units of the 412 (chassis number of one model: ZFFYD24C000074385) and its 412 i version (chassis numbers: ZFFYD240000079525 and ZFFYD240000079525). In total, he has four 412 series cars.
Ferrari 458 Italia

The Sultan’s car collection complex also features modern prancing horse machines like the 458 Italia.
He owns not one but eight of the same model, likely in different colors. Rumors have it that the Sultan got one of his red 458 Italia, first registered in the UK before importing it to Brunei.
Ferrari California

The famous Gran Tourer made between 2008 and 2017, the Ferrari California has been made to the Sultan’s Ferrari collection as well.
Reportedly, there are seventeen California models, each with a 2-door, a retractable hardtop, and a 4.3L V8 engine.
Ferrari Enzo

The Ferrari Enzo, the former flagship model, is owned by famous names irrespective of the industry.
From Ferrari collector David Lee to Former F1 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen, and Academy Award-winning actor Nicolas Cage to Former CEO of the Miami Marlins Derek Jeter, you would find the Enzo in their garage.
Meanwhile, despite its limited production of around 400, the Sultan of Brunei owns six units. Currently, each Enzo is worth nearly $3.4 million.
In 2022, RM Sotheby’s listed a Ferrari Enzo for auction. While the auction house did not explicitly confirm whether the car belonged to the Sultan of Brunei, it did disclose that the Enzo was part of a Brunei royal family member’s collection.
Further details strongly suggested that this particular Enzo was indeed the Sultan’s, distinguished by its rare matte black finish, the first Ferrari hypercar to ever feature such a paint scheme.
Ferrari FXX

The Ferrari FXX was the result of Ferrari’s ‘XX Programmes’, which started in 2005. Reportedly, only 30 units were ever built, and two of them are in the ownership of the Sultan.
That said, the FXX can only be driven on a special track approved by Ferrari. Meanwhile, there are also various iterations of the FX,X such as the Evoluzione.
Ferrari Mondial

There are six Mondial units in the Sultan of Brunei’s Ferrari collection. That said, the Ferrari Mondial was sold in coupe or cabriolet body styles with V8 engines.
In the present market, the Ferrari Mondial has an average value of $48,643. The chassis numbers for the Sultan of Brunei’s five Mondial cars are as follows.
- WFOFXXGBBFRY2372
- WFOFXXGBBFRY95727
- WFOFXXGBBFRY96802
- WFOAXXGBBARL54819
- WFONXXGBBNPD92606
Ferrari 550 Bahar

The 550 Bahar was named after the Sultan’s nephew and second child of Prince Jerfri, Pengiran Muda Bahar. It was based on the Ferrari 550 Barchetta and made by Pininfarina with Paolo Garella as the project manager.
The Ferrari 550 Bahar was a one-off model with a custom hardtop and came with an automatic transmission.
The car suffered from many different damages, such as a moldy interior, a faulty engine due to the timing chain, and more. However, it was fully restored in 2014 and has been spotted outside Brunei.
Ferrari 365 GTS/4

In 1989, after the Ferrari 365 GTS/4 became part of the Sultan of Brunei’s royal car collection, it was sent to the Italian design house Pininfarina for customization, which installed an automatic power soft top and fuel injection.
That said, the first owner was Robert S. Michaels from London, who asked Maranello Concessionaires to repaint the car in black in 1971. Years later, in 1987, Rod Leach's Nostalgia in the UK acquired the car before selling it to Alan Lawson the same year. The car finally reached a known Ferrari dealer, Talacrest, in the UK, with 9,000 miles on it.
The Sultan spent around $1.2 million in 1989 for the Ferrari 365 GTS/4.
Ferrari 512 BB Koenig Special

Sources claim that the Sultan of Brunei’s Ferrari collection also includes a 1980 Ferrari 512 BB Koenig Special in white.
Currently, the auction price of the 512 BB Koenig Special is around $200,000. That being said, it is also customized by the German company Koenig Specials.
Assuming the car has the same package as other 512s on the auction site, the Sultan’s Ferrari would also have 15-inch alloy wheels with gold faces and polished barrels, a 450 horsepower 4.9L Flat-12 engine, and a high-performance exhaust system.
