Tom Cruise, known for his role of naval aviator Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in the "Top Gun" series, has received the Department of the Navy's highest civilian accolade, the Distinguished Public Service accolade. This honor celebrates his outstanding achievements to the Navy and Marine Corps through his film work.

On December 17, 2024, Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro presented Cruise with the honor at a ceremony at Longcross Film Studios in Chertsey, Surrey, England. During his acceptance speech, Tom Cruise underlined the importance of service and leadership, saying, "To lead is to serve. And I know it to my core." He expressed his deep regard for military members, recognizing their dedication and sacrifice.
