Seahawks Trade DK Metcalf To Steelers, Panthers Fans Disappointed

The Seattle Seahawks are looking for significant changes in the roster as they head for the 2025 season.

While the speculations had surfaced that Metcalf might be traded to the Carolina Panthers, in a surprising turn of events, the two-time Pro Bowler now finds himself in the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Five-Year Deal

DK Metcalf has signed a five-year deal worth $150 million with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 27-year-old wide receiver has moved to the AFC North in exchange for a 2025 second-round draft pick. While the deal seems to be sweet for Metcalf, it has also led to disappointment amongst Carolina Panthers fans.

The earlier reports and speculations suggested that Metcalf might have made a move to Carolina, which was received positively, as fans believed that Metcalf would be a perfect fit for the Panthers.

However, it looks like the Steelers needed a receiver to complement George Pickens and found a good deal with Metcalf.

Rebuilding Seahawks

Meanwhile, Seattle appears to be fully embracing a rebuild after missing the playoffs last season. The team has already moved on from Geno Smith, sending him to the Las Vegas Raiders, and with veterans like Tyler Lockett also departing, the offense is undergoing a complete overhaul.

With a new quarterback on the horizon, Metcalf’s production was likely to take a hit in Seattle, making the trade a logical step in their long-term plans. The Seahawks' strategy mirrors similar blockbuster trades across sports, like the Anthony Davis and Luka Dončić deal, which sent shockwaves through the NBA world.
