Model and entrepreneur Kim Kardashian is no stranger to controversies. Her recent photo shoot with a Cybertruck and an Optimus robot for the Perfect Magazine has people over the internet divided.
While many believe that Kardashian has clearly chosen a side in the ongoing anti-Musk and anti-Tesla protests, few believe that it’s just another of Kim’s tactics to stay in the limelight.
Perfect Magazine
Kim Kardashian took to Instagram to post her photoshoot to her 358 million followers. Posing for a special edition of Perfect magazine, Kim Kardashian can be seen getting her photo clicked by Steven Klein while she poses on a Tesla Cybertruck.
Many of her photos include Kardashian embracing a Tesla robot, including one photo where she and the robot are lying on a mattress next to the ocean in an embrace. While the photoshoot uses Tesla products as props, many have questioned the timing of the photoshoot and whether Kim Kardashian is trying to make a statement.
Tesla Boycott
Elon Musk and his antics for the past year have many outraged. Ever since Musk joined Trump’s campaign for the presidential election, he has made offensive remarks and was recently under heavy scrutiny for doing an alleged Nazi salute. Musk, who currently leads the DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) under the Trump Administration, has been responsible for laying off thousands of federal employees to achieve his goal of saving one trillion dollars.
His actions have led people to stage a public boycott of his products. Existing Tesla owners have sold their EVs while those who cannot afford to sell them are resorting to using stickers denouncing Trump.
Many Tesla dealerships have also seen massive protests and vandalization. This has led to a huge slump in Tesla stocks with the situation worsening to a point where the president himself had to step in and show support for Musk and his companies.
Speculations
Once the photo shoot went live on the model’s Instagram, netizens were quick to point out the timing of the post. Many have shared their opinion that Kardashian has clearly made a statement in the ongoing anti-Musk and anti-Tesla boycott.
This has also led many to allege that Kardashian is a Republican. While Kardashian has not publicly endorsed a candidate in the 2020 or 2024 presidential elections, she did appear to show support for Melania Trump this January. Kardashian had shared a photo on Instagram from Donald Trump’s inauguration where Melania could be seen getting out of a car to attend the event wearing an overcoat and white brimmed hat. Kardashian also spoke to Trump in the Oval Office to advocate for him to commute Alice Marie Johnson’s sentence.
Trump, however, has criticised Kardashian in the past. In 2023, he had rambled on Truth Social that the reality TV star is the “world’s most overrated celebrity” and that he helped her with “prisoner communication” but “only if deserving, and much more so for Kanye West, Kim’s ex-husband, than for Kim, who probably voted for Crooked Joe Biden.”
Kardashian, on her par,t refuses to be making a political statement as she explained in her interview with Perfect, “I think the big joke of me even doing the shoot with the robot is that I feel like I’m so robotic.”
