This Halloween, NBC plans to transform the famous 30 Rockefeller Plaza into a haunted house with Jimmy Fallon. NBC teamed up with Halloween Horror Nights from Universal Studios for Jimmy Fallon’s Tonightmares, a haunted maze based on Fallon’s nightmares.
The attraction takes visitors to a world of brain-hungry zombies, insane mad doctors, and deadly scarecrows through ten horrifying chambers that were inspired by Fallon's nightmares. With its September opening, this event has every potential to become a horror enthusiast's must-see location.

What to expect from “Tonightmares”

In “Tonightmares”, a horror trail, viewers will walk through a maze where every turn has a frightening twist. The rooms are themed around Fallon’s personal nightmares, blending his comedic personality with Universal Studios’ horror expertise.

From malfunctioning robots to zombies with a hunger for brains, the maze will definitely deliver an enhanced theatrical experience and bits of practical effects alongside interesting sets. Featuring each room to be scarier than the next one, this house ensures a different experience of the Halloween season.

Haunted houses

NBC's foray into the haunted house business is indicative of a larger trend in entertainment, where immersive events such as Halloween Horror Nights have become incredibly successful. These seasonal events have become part of the company’s branding and a way of drawing people to their theme parks within California and Florida. Thus, NBC plans to open a similar attraction in New York’s Rockefeller Center to help even more fans capture the spirit of the spooky season.

A haunted future?

The world of late-night television appears to be facing its own set of horrors as NBC goes into producing immersive horror experiences. The genre that used to rule television is currently up against the relentless rise of streaming platforms.

Although Jimmy Fallon's haunted maze could be an exciting addition to NBC's Halloween programming, other late-night hosts like Jimmy Kimmel are navigating the challenges posed by shifting entertainment trends. As audiences continue to favor on-demand content, the industry will have to evolve—or risk becoming a relic of the past.
