Chet Hanks, known for his viral “White Boy Summer” rap, is making a bold shift into country music. The artist recently shocked fans at MTV's 2024 Video Music Awards by revealing that he’s working on a country album. At 34, he’s ready to explore a new musical path and confidently declared, “It’s me,” when asked who people should be listening to during these turbulent times. With his upcoming country record, Hanks is determined to create a buzz, and he’s got no doubt it’ll turn heads.
From rap to country
Despite being better known for rap, Chet, Tom Hanks’ second youngest son, is diving headfirst into the country scene with undeniable confidence. He shocked audiences on MTV's Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets by singing a song he wrote himself, "Leaving Hollywood." Tyler Posey, star of Teen Wolf, played guitar during the unexpected concert, which also included Ally Brooke of Fifth Harmony on supporting vocals. The shift from rap to singing wasn’t easy, but Hanks embraced the challenge, learning to “open up his heart” and “show his soul”.
Nashville dreams
In a not-so-subtle nod to his country aspirations, Chet announced his relocation to Nashville in August. He's leaving California behind and jumping right into his new life at the center of the country music scene. His mother, actress and singer Rita Wilson, who has released four country albums, might be part of the inspiration behind his shift to Nashville with a series of Instagram posts featuring a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and the caption, “#LeavingHollywood.”
With his recent move to Nashville and his biker-inspired leather appearance at the VMAs, Chet Hanks is fully embracing the country music lifestyle as he gets ready for his big music debut. Fans can't wait for what's next from Hanks as he is set to leave his imprint on the country scene with his upcoming album and the support of a label.
