With the next US Presidential elections slated to occur on November 5th of this year, people have been divided on who they should support and vote for in the polls. Many reputed individuals from almost all occupations have been making appearances at the campaign stops of both candidates. One of the most surprising yet expected guest appearances that occurred was in Detroit this past Saturday by former President Barack Obama who Eminem introduced.
While speaking at the downtown Huntington Place Convention Center in Detroit, former President Obama said that irrespective of the feeling that the voters may feel for the upcoming election, people must get off their seats and vote. The visit was in line with the fourth day of early in-person voting in Detroit. This comes on the heels of presidential nominee Donald Trump who has been trying to gain the attention of African-American voters before the voting that will be conducted on 5th November.
Apart from former President Barack Obama, others also took the stage in support of Kamala Harris. Governor Gretchen Whitmer as well as Democratic Senators, Debbie Stabenow, and Gary Peters along with Representative Elissa Slotkin also spoke in support of Kamala Harris and her policies. Talking about Representative Slotkin, Barack Obama talked to the 12,000 attendees about how she has been working to reduce the cost of prescription medicines and returning supply chains to the country to encourage them to vote for Representative Slotkin.
Since Michigan has become the biggest and most prominent state for the upcoming Presidential election, it is a highly strategic stop for both Democrats and Republics. Before introducing former President Obama, Eminem also spoke on stage and said that he did not think anyone would want to stay in an America where people should worry about retribution in case, they make their opinions public. He also added that he believes, Vice President Kamala Harris is competent enough to ensure that the Freedom of Speech along with other rights will be protected and validated.
Talking about Donald Trump’s economic plan, former President Obama said that it was unfair to blame immigrants and provide tax cuts to billionaires instead of the 100 million working-class residents in America. However, there was a quick rebuttal by the Michigan GOP Victoria LaCivita, who said that it was clear that the Democrats were on the losing side as they had to get Barack Obama in the picture to campaign for Presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
It is expected that former First Lady Michelle Obama will also be appearing on the campaign trail for Kamala Harris’s election campaign in the last few weeks. Kamala Harris has also spoken about the upcoming generation’s leadership for the country and what promises it holds. Wearing a “Detroit vs Everybody” t-shirt, Kamala Harris said, “It is about investing in working people, in middle-class people, and in our children.”
It is important to note that Kamala Harris had introduced an economic plan for African-American men to provide $1 million as loans to entrepreneurs, education, and job training. Along with steps to address health problems like sickle cell disease, diabetes, and other health issues. Former President Obama also mentioned that the lack of enthusiasm among Afro-American men for Harris’s campaign was extremely visible. Among the many proposed measures by Kamala Harris, the expansion of the Child Tax Credit for both new parents and existing parents is being considered. She also plans to provide a $25,000 tax credit for first-time homeowners and a tax break worth $50,000 for small business start-ups.
