Austin Butler, known for his depiction of Elvis Presley in "Elvis," is scheduled to play Patrick Bateman in Luca Guadagnino's upcoming version of "American Psycho." This new film seeks to provide a unique viewpoint on Bret Easton Ellis' 1991 novel, as opposed to the 2000 adaption starring Christian Bale.
A Fresh Take on a Controversial Classic
Unlike the last film, Guadagnino's adaptation aims to go deeper into the novel's themes, providing a distinct perspective of Bateman's character as well as satirical elements of 1980s Wall Street society. The film will be released by Lionsgate.
Audiences may connect American Psycho's Patrick Bateman with Christian Bale, but a new actor has responded to speculations that he will headline Lionsgate's next adaptation. Based on Bret Easton Ellis' satirical horror novel of the same name, Bale's portrayal of investment banker and serial murderer Patrick Bateman in the film adaptation solidified his status as one of Hollywood's most sought-after leading men. Lionsgate announced in October 2024 that they will be moving forward with a new American Psycho remake directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Luca Guadagnino.
Butler's Rising Stardom
Austin Butler, 33, has received critical acclaim for his performances, particularly in "Elvis" and the upcoming "Dune: Part Two." His casting as Bateman
demonstrates his versatility and ability to handle complicated parts. Fans and reviewers alike are looking forward to seeing his portrayal of the iconic figure.
Casting Speculations and Confirmations
Prior to Butler's confirmation, performers like Jacob Elordi were linked to the role. Elordi responded to these rumors, saying it was "news to me," implying no involvement. While Elordi has not acknowledged if he is genuinely in the running to follow in Bale's footsteps, his carefully phrased remark will likely do little to quell speculation about his prospective involvement. Elordi, who has already demonstrated his flexibility as an actor by portraying everyone from an affluent student to Elvis Presley, could easily play a yuppie serial killer. The question is whether he can deliver a performance to match Bale's.
