Springsteen’s roots are deeply tied to New Jersey, but in the 1990s, he swapped his familiar home for the glitz of Hollywood Hills. His new commute was a 1969 Ford XL land barge, complete with a white ragtop, sea green finish, and a Cadillac-length design. This was no ordinary ride; it was the ultimate road trip machine.

8. 1982 Chevrolet Camaro Z28

1982 Chevrolet Camaro Z28

Bruce’s 1982 song Used Cars painted a picture of his frustrations with second-hand vehicles, but ironically, he had never owned a new car until that year. In his memoir Born to Run, he reflects on this milestone, sharing how he finally splurged on a 1982 Chevy Z28 Camaro. Despite never spending over $10,000 on himself before, Springsteen drove off in a car that made him feel like royalty.

4. 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible

Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible

One of the most iconic convertibles to ever roll out of the Chevy factory is the Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible, and Bruce Springsteen had the chance to own one in his youth. In 1975, as he was rising to fame with his breakthrough album Born to Run, Bruce, then 26, finally got his own set of wheels – a Sky-blue 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air.

It wasn't just any car, though; he had it resprayed yellow and customized with bold orange flames painted across the hood. The car symbolized the essence of freedom, especially in 1970s New Jersey, and as Bruce recalls in his memoir, it was a “powerful image” that perfectly complemented his newfound fame.

Despite only owning the car for a year, its impact was undeniable. Special Mention: 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Convertible

1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Convertible

A 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible once owned by Bruce Springsteen has made waves, selling for a whopping $302,500 at a Mecum Auctions event, far exceeding its typical value. The Le Mans blue car, immortalized in Springsteen’s 1978 song "Racing in the Streets," was owned by the singer from 1981 to 1987.

It features the same 396 cubic-inch V8 and Hurst shifter as described in the song and was a regular companion during his time working on albums like Born in the USA and Nebraska.

The car was later restored to its original condition, after being painted Midnight Black by Springsteen and then given to his sound engineer Toby Scott in 1987. Scott spent decades restoring it back to its factory blue color, completing the job in 2020. After a stint in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum, the Chevelle was auctioned for nearly double its expected value.
