One of the most-watched YouTube stars in the world, MrBeast or Jimmy Donaldson, was test-driving Formula E's cutting-edge GEN3 Evo car and ended up crashing it.
It happened during the 'Evo Sessions' celebrity event at the Miami International Autodrome. MrBeast joined 11 officially invited high-profile figures, including former pro-footballer Sergio Agüero, to experience the prowess of electric racing in person.
The Miami 'Evo Sessions' Event
The 'Evo Sessions' is an exclusive event organized by Formula E. It aims to bridge the gap between electric racing and mainstream audiences by collaborating with celebrities and influencers.
Tech influencer Cleo Abram, son of David Beckham-Brooklyn Beckham, Harry Potter Franchise actor Tom Felton, and car enthusiast and Youtuber Supercar Blondie were among eleven notable personalities featured in this year’s Miami event.
MrBeast's participation increased the buzz as he was teaming up with the Cupra Kiro team and Dan Ticktum to film his videos.
The Incident Unfolded
Before getting on the race track, MrBeast donned a black racing suit with his Feastables brand logo to drive the world's fastest single-seater.
The start was smooth. Everything seems normal in the first lap. However, on his second lap, 26-year-old Mr Beast lost control of the vehicle and collided with the barriers.
Assessing His Readiness for High-Performance Racing
Fortunately, MrBeast emerged from the crash unscathed. After the crash, he could be seen laughing and joking about how he and the Formula E car were spinning on the track.
While MrBeast has experience with high-performance vehicles—his collection includes a Lamborghini Huracán Spyder, which can do 0-60 mph in just 3.1 seconds—a Formula E car is a different beast. It presents unique challenges due to its technical complexity and the level of experience required to handle it.
The Formula E Gen3 Evo car accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.82 seconds, nearly 30% faster than an F1 car. No wonder MrBeast struggled to control it.
Financial Implications of the Crash
Recently, MrBeast revealed that, despite a net worth estimated at around $1 billion, he doesn’t like keeping too much money in his bank account, which currently has $1 million. Most of the money he earns goes back to his business ventures, which include Feastables, MrBeast Burger, and Lunchly.
The cost of a 'Ready to Race' price of a single Gen 3 Formula E car was over $1.5 million a few years ago. Although he was not asked to pay any sum as far as reports are concerned, had MrBeast been personally liable, the famous YouTuber would have needed to liquidate a lot of cash from his assets, such as houses worth close to $300,000.
MrBeast's Automotive Ventures and Car Collection
This isn't MrBeast's first foray into the world of high-speed vehicles. He has collaborated with car fanatic and former The Tonight Show host Jay Leno to film a video with a $20 million McLaren F1.
Meanwhile, MrBeast has also made headlines for his extravagant giveaways. He has gifted luxury vehicles, including Lamborghinis and Teslas, to lucky fans. Taking his generosity a step further, he even launched a free car dealership and surprised customers.
Worth It?
MrBeast couldn’t finish his track run during the Formula E 'Evo Sessions' event, and he even avoided a possible lawsuit from Kiro Race Co. Nonetheless, he did manage to go viral, which he does the best. It begs the question. Was the crash an accident, or was it intentional? What do you guys think?
