MrBeast Announces Engagement To Thea Booysen With Heartfelt Proposal

MrBeast, the wildly popular YouTuber known for his extravagant challenges, rang in the New Year with a heartfelt surprise for his fans, announcing his engagement to fellow content creator Thea Booysen.

The 27-year-old internet star shared the news on his X handle, posting photos from their Christmas celebration with the caption, "So I kinda did a thing," paired with a smiling face emoji surrounded by hearts. According to Thea, the proposal was the highlight of a festive family gathering. "My family flew out from South Africa for Christmas, and we planned to celebrate at our house with both families," she revealed in an exclusive interview with People.

How It All Began

The couple first met in 2022 during MrBeast’s visit to South Africa, where they connected over a dinner with mutual friends. Thea recalls her first impression of Jimmy Donaldson (Mr. Beast) and was pleasantly surprised by how grounded and intelligent he was. "I thought YouTubers were just personas, but when I met him, I realized he’s genuinely a nice guy without an ego," she shared.

Their bond grew through conversations about science, YouTube, and shared interests, leading to the beautiful relationship they celebrate today. 

A Creative and Intimate Proposal

Describing the special moment, Thea shared, "We were opening presents, and then for the very last one, he asked me to close my eyes because it was a surprise." MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, proposed to her with his brand of creativity. "I intentionally dropped a large box to grab everyone’s attention before presenting the real gift—the ring," he explained. “Then, I got down on one knee and proposed.”

The surprise worked perfectly for Mr Beast, as Thea happily said yes to her fellow content creator. Also, Jimmy ensured that the moment was meaningful for her, so he included her South African family in the celebration. "Thea is really close to her family, so I wanted to make sure they were part of this special occasion," he shared. “Christmas was the perfect time because they were in town from the other side of the world.”

A Thoughtful and Private Celebration

The proposal by MrBeast was intentionally private and intimate, reflecting his desire to make the moment personal despite his reputation for over-the-top and expensive stunts. The engagement ring, featuring a diamond on a rose gold band with smaller diamonds adorning the sides, was indeed a thoughtful choice.

While some fans expressed surprise at the simplicity of the proposal, given MrBeast’s larger-than-life persona, others appreciated the sincerity and focus on family. Currently hosting the reality competition series Beast Games, with a $5 million cash prize, Jimmy made it clear this moment was more about him being in love, not a spectacle.
