In all the chaos of the world, the silent race for the thinnest watch ever has been unfolding for years now. New tech in Horology is marrying innovation with artistry to bless us with the likes of Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra Mark II, the reigning king of the thin watch segment with 1.7mm thickness. However, Richard Mille with its Ferrari collab, and Piaget with infinite customization are also among the top three contenders in the list of the 10 thinnest watches in the world.

1. Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra Mark II

When Bulgari CEO, Jean-Christophe Babin said “Innovation never ends at Bulgari, he meant it and the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra Mark II stands as proof. It is the new thinnest watch in the world. The new  Ultra Mark II boasts a baffling case thickness of 1.7 mm, according to Bulgari. If you think the tungsten carbide case is thin then prepare to be astounded since the sandblasted grade-5 titanium bracelet is only 1.5 mm wide. Furthermore, the Octo Finissimo Ultra Mark II has an octagonal case shape with a diameter of just 40 mm. 

The drama doesn’t end here. The world’s thinnest mechanical watch is also the thinnest chronometer certified in history. It has a 28'800 Vph (4 Hz) frequency and a 50-hour power reserve. The watch's case back features a unique QR code connected to the Italian jewelry company's Datamatrix.

The latest Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC costs around $546,000 in platinum while $529,000 is the set base price for the titanium version. It is only limited to 20 pieces and Meta and Facebook CEO has already grabbed one.

2. Richard Mille RM UP-01 Ferrari

Swiss watchmaker held nothing back when it introduced the former thinnest watch in the market in mid-2022. Before the Octo Finissimo Ultra Mark II was crowned, the RM UP-01 Ferrari would flaunt its 1.75 mm thickness. Meanwhile, its 1.18mm thick movement, paired with an impressive 45-hour power reserve, is engineered to withstand forces of up to 5,000g of gravity.

The RM UP-01 Ferrari has a grand-5 titanium bridge and bracelet robust and feather-light design. Built by the collaboration of Richard Mill and Ferrari in 2021, the luxury watch has hour and balance dials made out of sapphire with anti-glare treatment.

3. Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Ultra

In 2022, the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra reigned as the thinnest watch in the world until RM UP-01 Ferrari made its debut. Bvlgari released the Octo Finissimo Ultra to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Octo collection. It is 1.8 mm thick and is water resistant until 10 meters. 

The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra’s octagonal case is made of sandblasted grade-5 titanium octagonal. Meanwhile, tungsten carbide has been used for the back plate with anthracite DLC treatment. It has 1.50mm BVL Calibre 180 movement and a 50-hour power reserve. All 10 limited edition pieces had an engraved QR code on the ratchet wheel.

4. Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept

Before Bulgari’s new Octo releases and RM+Ferrari collaborations, it was the Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept that ended up winning the "Aiguille d'Or" award at the 2020 Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG). The former slimmest watch in the world, the Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept was released in 2018. It is made from cobalt alloy instead of titanium or platinum and had a thickness of 2 mm.

Furthermore, the Altiplano Ultimate Concept featured an integrated winding crown and an ultra-thin crystal. Although 40 hours of power reserve is shorter than the top three thinnest watches on our list it is still remarkable. It also has water resistance up to 20 meters.

Piaget offers an enormous degree of customization freedom. Over 10,000 permutations through different straps, colors of the bridge and dial, and the finish of the hands and the main plate are offered. No surprise from the brand, as it unveiled a new tourbillon edition of the Altiplano Ultimate Concept, now crowned the world’s thinnest tourbillon in 2024.

5. Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon

On its 150th anniversary, Piaget not only invited global celebrities such as Rosamund Pike, Ellie Bamber, Lee Jun-ho, Ella Richards, and Yao Tong but also did “an outstanding feat” in its own words. It unveiled a new tourbillon edition of the Altiplano Ultimate Concept, now crowned the world’s thinnest tourbillon since 2024. Its 2 mm case is made of blue PVD-treated cobalt alloy which houses two thin sapphire slices. 

The world’s thinnest Tourbillon has a power reserve of 40 hours and comes with a manual caliber with a one-minute peripheral tourbillon. How many Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillons are there yet to be revealed? However, we do know that each will have a starting price of over $650,000.

6. Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra-Thin Squelette

One of the biggest was the leading figure in horological innovation until RM and Bulgari overtook it. By stripping all the flesh down its bone, the Master Ultra-Thin Squelette was made with just 3.6 mm thickness. During its launch in 2015, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra-Thin Squelette was the thinnest mechanical watch. There were several models offered which were sold with a limited edition of 100 pieces in each series. However, the total number of units sold remains unknown. 

The Master Ultra-Thin Squelette was sold with a retail starting price of over $60,000. One of the notable models with a 13435SQ reference number came with an 18-carat pink gold case and Burgundy leather for the strap. The movement is 1.85mm thick and it was offered with a power reserve of 33 hours.

7. Piaget Altiplano Ultimate 900P

The Piaget Altiplano Ultimate 900P is an ultra-thin hand-wound mechanical watch with a 3.65 mm thickness. It was launched in 2013. The Altiplano Ultimate 900P had 20 jewels and 145 components inside. It came with Sunburst satin-brushed bridges and a 45-hour power reserve. Buyers could order the Altiplano in numerous variations with cases made out of 18k rose gold/white gold or other materials.

8. Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic

At Baselworld 2018, the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic became the world’s thinnest automatic watch as well as the thinnest tourbillon watch. This was the fourth time the new Bulgari watch established an industry record which included the acknowledgement at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. 

The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic has a paper-thin 3.95 mm case made from sandblasted titanium. There is sapphire crystal on the front while solid titanium on the back. The bracelet is also crafted from sandblasted titanium. The movement is only 1.95mm thick and it came with a 52 hours of power reserve.

9. Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Skeleton

Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Skeleton came with a 1.95 mm movement, inside a 4.85 mm sandblasted titanium case with black DLC treatment. An ample number of high-end materials were added to the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Skeleton. These include rose gold-plated hands, a polished 18-carat rose gold crown with black ceramic inserts, a titanium pin buckle with black DLC treatment, and black openwork skeletonized dials. 

The Tourbillon Skeleton watch is water resistant up to 30 meters and has a power reserve of 52 hours. Reportedly, the Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Skeleton was limited to 50 units and the Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Skeleton Platinum version would cost around $200,000.

Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon is the most slender movement ever crafted, featuring a groundbreaking flying tourbillon. The Octo Finissimo Tourbillon has 249 components, a platinum case, and a power reserve of 55 hours.

The extra thin mechanical boats have a case thickness of 5.15 mm and feature movement of just 2.23 mm. It comes with a whopping 60-hour power reserve which is the highest in our list of thin watches. It also offers 30 meters of water resistance.
