Mac Miller's 'Balloonerism' Album And Short Film Release Details

The late Mac Miller's estate has scheduled the release of his posthumous album, Balloonerism, on January 17, 2025. This album, which was recorded between 2013 and 2014, will be accompanied by an animated short film made by Samuel Mason, providing listeners with a visual experience to compliment the music.

Album Details

Balloonerism contains 14 tracks, including collaborations with Delusional Thomas (Miller's alter ego) and singer SZA. The first single, "5 Dollar Pony Rides," was released on January 9, 2025, and is about emotionally difficult relationships.  

Short Film

The accompanying short film, also titled Balloonerism, is an animated piece that seeks to create a visual story about Mac Miller's creative process. The film, directed by Samuel Mason and produced by Hornet, will be available for streaming on the same day as the record is released. 

The film is set to be released in the United States on Wednesday (Jan. 15), with overseas fans receiving it the following day. A series of "One Night Only" advance theater shows have been organized around the world, including in Miller's hometown of Pittsburgh and New York City. Other screenings are scheduled for Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Ireland, France, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

Release Date and Availability

Balloonerism will be accessible on all major streaming services, as well as in physical formats such as CD, vinyl, and cassette. The record's release date corresponds with the fifth anniversary of Mac Miller's first posthumous album, Circles.
