In recent months, protests against Tesla and its CEO, Elon Musk, have intensified globally in the US, EU, and other parts of the world over Musk's political involvement and Tesla's labor practices.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk is busy setting up his gaming setup in his DOGE office and warning employees across Federal government agencies of layoffs if they don’t send their productivity surveys. He has already fired 100,000 federal employees and gained access to sensitive information on millions of Americans, as reported by BBC.

United States: 'Tesla Takedown' Movement Gains Momentum

In the United States, the "Tesla Takedown" movement is targeting Tesla dealerships nationwide.

In order to challenge Musk’s economic policies, and political influence and bring down Tesla’s value protesters are urging the public to sell their vehicles and shares. They believe Elon is harming the economy and the US as the free nation itself.

Chants like "Elon Musk can go to Mars; we don't need your Nazi cars”, “Nobody voted for Elon Musk,” and “We need clean air, not another billionaire” outside Tesla stores in Manhattan and other locations are on the rise, referencing Musk's controversial political actions.

Similar demonstrations have occurred in cities such as San Francisco, Berkeley, Minneapolis, and Kansas City. People are also forming “Anti Elon Tesla Club" and sticking stickers on their cars.

Individual Actions: High-profile Tesla Owners Divest

Apart from the masses, prominent individuals and investors are standing up against Tesla as well. Former angel investor Joanne Wilson and her husband Fred Wilson sold their Tesla vehicles in protest of Musk's actions through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative.

Tesla shares did see an increasing trend after Donald Trump’s re-election. However, they have started tumbling again and Tesla has already lost $700 billion in stock market value.

That said, months back, even Bill Gates slammed Elon Musk’s inclination to the right. Besides that, In February, “All I Wanna Do" singer Sheryl Crow also sold her Tesla as a form of protest against Elon. She stated, “There comes a time when you have to decide who you are willing to align with. So long Tesla.”

Global Impact: Boycotts and Vandalism

Not everything has been peaceful. The backlash against Musk has led to boycotts and vandalism targeting Tesla properties in the US and around the globe.

American Tesla dealerships and charging stations in Colorado and Massachusetts have been set on fire, and several arrests have been made in New York and other states.

In some places, Cybertrucks are being booed and even pelted by the protesters. Apart from vandalism against other owners, some are even damaging and defacing their own cars with graffiti to signal their discontent.

In Europe, particularly in countries like Germany, France, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, Tesla’s sales have significantly declined, due to consumer boycotts driven by Musk's controversial behavior and political stance. Among the chaos, Elon is taking it to X and thanking people for their support of Tesla.

Europe: Strikes, Environmental Protests, and Right-Wing Bycott

Spain is starting to become a new hot spot for Tesla protests in Europe. Last week in the capital city, Lisbon, a demonstration took place outside the Tesla showroom against Elon Musk’s right-wing parties.

SpaceX CEO has used his social media platform to support right-wing, Nazi, and racist parties in France, Romanica, Germany, and UK. According to Reuters, people in Spain are rising up in protest just before a possible snap election.

Last year, protesters turned their attention to Tesla’s Gigafactory in Berlin-Brandenburg, Germany. In early 2024, the tension reached a boiling point when around 800 activists occupied the nearby woodlands. Their goal? To halt the factory’s expansion plans, which they argued would come at a devastating cost to the local environment.

In Sweden, a different kind of battle has been unfolding. Mechanics affiliated with the IF Metall trade union took a stand against TM Sweden, a Tesla service subsidiary, over the company’s refusal to sign a collective agreement. This wasn’t just a fleeting protest; it became a historic labor movement. Since October 2023, the strike has dragged on, making it the longest in Sweden in over 80 years.

Meanwhile, in the UK, activists are hacking bus ads. They are replacing them with posters of Elon Musk’s nazi salute at Donald Trump's inauguration and asking people to delete their X accounts to know "President Musk" that they are not happy with his interference in the political scene.

Future Outlook

It is not just Elon Musk facing the brunt of the public. Several Republican senators and congressmen are receiving criticism in their campaigns and town halls. Protesters are asking them questions regarding their support of Elon Musk and economic decline.

So what is Trump doing instead of solving the crises in the country? President Donald Trump is arresting students from Columbia and other universities over alleged anti-Semitic charges.

The protests are expected to continue and a government crackdown is likely to come as police presence intensifies at sensitive locations.
