From WWE To The White House: Linda McMahon's New Role As Education Secretary

President Donald Trump has selected his transition co-chair Linda McMahon as the future Secretary of Education. The decision, which Trump revealed Tuesday night, confirmed CNN's earlier story, came after it became evident that McMahon would not be appointed Commerce Secretary.

Background and Career Highlights:

President Donald Trump has nominated Linda McMahon, former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and former Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator, to be the next Secretary of Education. McMahon co-founded WWE with her husband, Vince McMahon, in 1980 and headed it until 2009. She then served as SBA Administrator from 2017 to 2019.

Advocacy for School Choice:

McMahon has long advocated for school choice and family rights in education. As chair of the America First Policy Institute, she fought to establish universal school choice in 12 states, with the goal of providing great education to all children regardless of zip code or income.

Alignment with Trump's Education Policies:

Trump's selection of McMahon is consistent with his administration's goal of restoring control of education policy to the states. He has previously voiced a desire to destroy the Department of Education, which McMahon's appointment underscores.

Experience in Education Oversight:

McMahon previously served on the Connecticut Board of Education, where she was one of fifteen members responsible for supervising all public education in the state, including the technical high school system.

Public Reaction and Confirmation Process:

The nomination has garnered attention due to McMahon's limited direct experience in education. However, her leadership roles and advocacy for school choice have been highlighted as assets. The confirmation process is expected to proceed in the coming weeks.
