Thomas Jeffrey Hanks, aka Tom Hanks, is an American actor, producer, writer, and director, known for his award-winning performances in films such as Forrest Gump, Philadelphia, and Saving Private Ryan. Despite his two Academy Awards, seven Primetime Emmy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, and unfathomable acting accolades, Hanks has a passion for vintage cars and has been spotted driving several classic vehicles over the years, including vintage Toyota models and old-school EVs. Inside Tom Hanks' car collection, most of his purchases came through Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction and even on his birthday, a fan found him a vintage Fiat that he was looking for which he sold after years in an auction.
Current Cars
3. 2007 AC Propulsion eBox
Among Tom Hanks' interesting car collections, the eBox from AC Propulsion has to be among his favorite ones. Back in 2007 when an EV car startup company launched - the eBox, Tom Hanks personally drove one of them and had nothing but nice things to say about it. He described, “What AC Propulsion is doing is fantastic. I drove their “tzero” electric sports car a few years ago, so when they put the same technology in a four-door I wanted one for myself…”
2007 AC Propulsion eBox | Specs |

Powertrain | Electric |
Horsepower | 200 hp |

Transmission | CVT |

Being the face of the company and a supporter, AC Propulsion delivered Tom his own green eBox model as their first customer. Despite the modest look, the car makes up in its reliability and efficiency department, which is exactly what Hanks looks for in his rides.
2. 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe
The next car on Tom Hanks' car collection list is a champagne-colored Chevrolet Tahoe. The Tahoe was a full-size SUV that was released by General Motors in the early 1990s. It was a car that was quite popular among actors at that time. Hanks has a Chevrolet Tahoe in its base trim.

The estimated value of a second-generation Chevrolet Tahoe is $4,500 in the used-car market while the starting price back then was around $46,300. The actor was also spotted in an early-generation Tahoe, where he was stopped by the police during a regular traffic check-in.
1. 2003 Toyota RAV4 EV
Tom Hanks is one of the few owners of the rare Toyota RAV4 EV, which was sold from 1997 to 2003. Tom Hanks has the 2003 model of the RAV4 EV. According to Hanks, the RAV4 EV is one of his favorite cars because it has room for his family (including a dog in the back), and it also comes with what Tom described as the "fastest, most effective windshield defroster known to mankind."
2003 Toyota RAV4 EV | Specs |
---|---|
Price | $42,000 |

Horsepower | 67 hp |
Torque | 140 lb-ft |

A total of 1500 RAV4 EVs were built, but a majority of them were destroyed after they got done with their leases, and only roughly 328 were sold after their leases. Once back in 2009, there was an article from the New York Post where the writer mistakenly published that Tom owns an EV1, however, the actor cleared up the mistake stating that it's not an EV1 but an RAV4 EV and it had over 50,000 miles on it.
Previously Owned Cars
5. 2004 Toyota Prius S
The Toyota Prius is another green car that is part of Tom Hanks' car collection, which isn’t surprising to anyone because his contributions to environmental causes are well-known and well-documented. And because of that, paparazzi are more likely to see Hanks driving a Toyota Prius around Los Angeles than a Bentley or another fast car.
2004 Toyota Prius | Specs |
---|---|
Price | $20,295 |
Powertrain | 1.5L Naturally Aspirated Gas/Electric Inline-4 |
Horsepower | 110 hp |
Torque | 82 lb-ft |

Unfortunately, the “Angels & Demons” actor doesn't have the car anymore. he auctioned off the car back in 2010 to raise money to support the charity named “Welcome Back Veterans”.
4. 2015 Tesla Model S Sold
Up next is the 2015 Tesla Model S, which is another green car in Tom Hanks’ car collection. The Tesla Model S not only has a long battery range, but also amazing performance, plenty of storage space inside, and an innovative AutoPilot system. The AutoPilot system makes it one of the most technologically advanced cars on the planet.

---|---|
Price | $106,200 |
Powertrain | Dual Electric motor |
Horsepower | 691 hp |

3. 1974 Fiat 126P
The next car on this list is the 1974 Fiat 126P. The story of how Tom Hanks got his hands on one of these is quite interesting. During a trip to Hungary in 2016, Hanks came across this car on the street, and as a joke, he ended up taking pictures with it and posting them on social media. A huge Tom Hanks fan named Monika Jaskólska spotted the tweets and set out to purchase one for him.
1974 Fiat 126p | Specs |
---|---|
Price | $83,500 |
Powertrain | 0.594L Inline-Twin |
Horsepower | 23 hp |
Torque | 29 lb-ft |
Transmission | 4-speed manual |
0-60 MPH | 35.8 seconds |
Top Speed | 68 MPH |
Jaskólska eventually succeeded in obtaining enough cash with the help of business sponsors to not only restore a 126p but also create a unique interior for it. Before being delivered to Hanks in Los Angeles via cargo jet, the custom Fiat 126P was unveiled in Poland just in time for his birthday in 2017. Hanks ended up selling the car at an auction, with all of the proceeds going to a charity called Hidden Heroes. He ended up getting $83,500 for his 1974 Fiat 126p.
2. 2011 Ford F-450 Super Duty Lariat
Tom Hanks got the 2011 Ford F-450 Super Duty Lariat pickup truck to tow his Airstream trailer. This was one of the cars that he ended up selling at an auction. Hanks sold the 2011 Ford F-450 Super Duty Lariat at the Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction for $84,000.

At the time of the auction, the 2011 Ford F-450 had less than 5,000 miles on it, which means that it's obvious that because of his busy film schedule, he wasn’t able to use it.
1. 1980 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser
The final car on this list is the 1980 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser, which is another car that Tom Hanks sold at the Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction. Hanks eventually replaced the factory engine with a GM L35 4.3-liter Vortec V6 and bolted a GM 5-speed manual transmission along with it.
