Tim Allen Car Collection In 2024 Is Super Classy

Tim Allen’s connection with cars, racing, and customization is deeper than people think. He has been a professional race driver for Saleen and has given his voice to Buzz Lightyear in ‘Toy Story Racer’ and other games. Furthermore, he owns an impressive collection of cars that are collectively worth over $3 million.

The Tim Allen car collection includes cars that were best in their eras. He owns a Jaguar E-Type but hides a Ferrari 330 GTC in his garage as well. His first car was a Baja Bug which was a modified version of the 1967 Beetle for off-roading. This could be called the starting point of his car ‘modification’ obsession. Following are some of the notable cars that he is holding captive in his garage.

27. 1956 Beetle Ragtop Bug

Tim's first car was a white 1967 Volkswagen Beetle Bug or Baja Bug. That is why, to reminisce old memories he got the 1956 Beetle painted in white color as well. This one was customized in collaboration with Oldbug, a vintage car company that is currently selling this Beetle and asking for $45,000.

The Beetle Ragtop Bug stands on Porsche wheels with graphite grey centers. Inside the cabin, there are red leather seats with white piping. At the same time, its engine compartment features a big 2.3L motor which hardly fits in there but it at least puts out 200 horsepower. Moreover, Allen has driven this car for less than 400 miles.

26. Chevrolet Silverado Intimidator

The Tim Allen car collection has a Chevrolet Silverado Intimidator SS model back in 2006, as reported by GQ magazine and other media outlets. This truck was a special edition made to pay tribute to late Dale Earnhardt and only 1,399 were made, according to Motortrend. The proceeds from the sale were donated to Earnhardt's foundation.

The 2006 Chevrolet Silverado Intimidator SS pickup can be sold at an auction for around $20,000. That said, it rode on 20-inch chrome wheels. On the exterior, a monochromatic black paint was given and the rear spoiler on the tailgate can be seen. At the same time, inside the cabin, various elements had 'Dale Earnhardt Legacy' logos and his signature was present on the tachometer.

25. Tesla Model 3

In one of his car tours, Tim Allen mentions that he owns a Tesla Model 3 but mocks the car for not having any moving parts. He also apologizes to Elon Musk and calls the Model 3 nothing but a 'Gold Cart'. Tim also said that his Tesla is the fastest car in his garage and has some modifications. However, he didn't give out details of the mods or what model year car it is. Some reports, he has the 2018 Model 3 Performance Edition.

24. 1962 Chevrolet 409 Bel Air

The 1962 Chevrolet 409 Bubble Top Bel Air is a car with a great motor with amazing exhaust sound, according to Tim. The 409 Bel Air features bench seats and stick shifter inside and a competent engine under the hood. This is a combination that puts Allen in awe due to the simplicity of everything. Having said that, during his garage tour, Tim didn't put out either the price of the car or other mods that he had done.

23. 1939 Studebaker K-30 Sleeper Cab

Tim claims that only five original Studebaker Sleeper Cabs are left and he has one of them. He bought the cab from a guy over 80 years old in Pennsylvania. Furthermore, Allen has taken the truck on CNBC's 'Jay Leno's Garage' show.

When Leno suggested they should go for a drive, Allen refused straight away because America's Tool Guy can't drive the K-30 since it is incredibly difficult to handle it on the road, and gear shifting takes an incredible amount of practice. Later, Jay Leno (the guy with a car collection worth tens of millions) drove the 1939 Studebaker quite easily.

Tim's 1939 Studebaker K-30 Sleeper Cab is powered by an Inline-6 engine which is connected to a connected to crash gearbox that has non-synchromesh gears. The engine can put out around 102 horsepower which was plentiful considering the age it was driven. Finally, according to Jay Leno, the 1939 Studebaker K-30 Sleeper Cab has a worth of over $200,000.

22. Ford Galaxie

In the Tim Allen car collection, there sits a quiet-looking car with an aggressive nature on the road. However, this is not the only Ford Galaxie Tim has owned in his lifetime. He had another 1964 Ford Galaxie Competition Coupe with orange paint and black stripes which is already on auction by Bonhams for $63,141 to $75,769. That being said, Tim calls his black Ford Galaxie a truck car because it drives like a truck.

Having said that, his former car was powered by a 5.8L race spec V8 engine which was mated to a 4-speed manual transmission.

21. Cadillac Fleetwood BDE

For some reason (only Al would know), his wife, Jane Hajduk considers this Cadillac a 'divorce car'. For Allen, this car reminds him of his childhood since rich folks around his neighborhood used to drive this car. Now that he is a big and rich man, Tim Allen has also bought the same car.

On his caddy, Allen put skeleton lights on the front and tried blacking out the car wherever possible. He also redid the interior and put it in the original condition of the stock mode.

20. 1971 Chevrolet Nova Custom

This is the same car that Tim used as a prop in his movie Zoom (2006). Years back, when Allen was driving in the Western part of LA, he saw a guy driving the Nova. Later, he asked the guy if the car was for sale or not, and eventually he bought it.

Furthermore, like almost every other car, Timflirted with the motor under the hood. Inside the cabin, he put AC and other creature comforts. Other updates include plastic bumpers and hood replacement as well.

19. 1933 Ford Roadster Custom

The 1933 Ford Roadster Custom was the first hot rod that Allen and his team built on 'Home Improvement'. According to him, this was the car that made him learn about the hot rods extensively. After he was done with the show, he decided to put on this gorgeous blue custom convertible in his car collection.

The exact expenditure for the customization of the 1933 Ford Roadster has been made public either by Allen or by Home Improvement executives. However, we do know that the Roadster was powered by a Chevy 350-cubic-inch V8 engine which put out around 145 to 350 horsepower.

18. 1946 Ford Convertible Custom

one of the many Ford hot rods that Tim Allen built on the 'Home Improvement' was this 1946 convertible. He customized the interior but other things such as chrome chassis and Motor City Flathead engine were done by someone else (who? Even Tim doesn't know). For the show, he has taken it apart and put it back together several times.

Allen's 1946 Ford Custom was powered by a 4.7L V8 engine which is connected to a Ford C4 3-speed automatic transmission. The engine put out 225 horsepower. Meanwhile, our Car Guy Tim finds this hot rod "pretty quick" for a cruiser. Although he doesn't tell how much time it takes to go from 0 to 60 MPH. On a side note, Tim also owns a 1944 Ford Custom which he has done in 60s theme.

17. Ford Falcon CJ

Tim bought the Falcon CJ from one of his high school friends, Kirk O'Green who sold him the car after his dad passed away. Tim did explain that he got the Falcon at a 'great' price but he never specified exactly how much he had paid. Furthermore, it is powered by a Cobra Jet (CJ) V8 engine and has a Hurst T-shirt. Lastly, the model year of this Ford has been revealed by Allen.

16. 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS LT5

When Tim was working on 'Home Improvement' he had two bespoke Impalas. He worked closely with Jon Moss, Chevrolet Speciality Vehicles manager at that time, and Wheel to Wheel's Jeff Beitze to transform the Impala SS into a car that was too fast for its own good.

They installed the Corvette ZR1 LT5 engine in the Impala. Inside the cabin, some elements from known Cadillac and Jaguar models (Tim hasn't specified which one that's why) were used. Furthermore, the 1996 Impala was made to look like a limousine.

15. 1953 F100 (built by McLaren)

Ford made the F100 custom pickup truck with McLaren to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ford Racing Technology and McLaren Performance collaboration. That said, Tim Allen got his hands on this black F100 FR100 in a 2019 Scottsdale auction organized by Barret Jackson. It was sold for $77,000.

One has a hood chopped and an engine popping out while there is one green 1956 F-100 from the "Last Man Standing" TV series.

14. 1966 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350H

Tim always wished to have one of the Mustang GT350H. He had even built a model for it and possessed a remote control version of the same. Furthermore, he contradicts himself while explaining how good of a car it is and he hasn't remodeled it to a great extent which is odd since Tim has a habit of modifying each car he likes. Additionally, he hasn't given out too many details of what subtle updation he has applied to his GT350H.

13. Volvo P1800

This Volvo P1800 is one of the cars that has been gifted by Allen's wife. He finds the car charming but finds it "really slow". Tim also claims that its dashboard is funky looking and the car doesn't handle way. However, he still wants to keep the Volvo to be part of the Tim Allen car collection because it is a 'premier' piece and has some value to it. Meanwhile, it is important to note that, he hasn't revealed the exact model year of the car.

12. 1950 Cadillac Series 61

The 1950 Cadillac Series 61 is one of Tim's favorite cars. He has driven it for a few years before applying its original paint on the exterior. He also retouched the interior after which the car looked brand new. He has also installed the original Stomberg engine under the hood. Meanwhile, the exact worth of Tim's Series 61 remains a secret since he hasn't told all the details about the changes he has made.

Furthermore, a 4-speed automatic and a 3-speed manual transmission was also offered.

11. 1971 VW Karmann Ghia

The Karmann Ghia is one of the few cars that Tim bought online. After the purchase, he made some modifications. As per Allen, he mixed the Karmann Ghia with the 1955 Porsche which we believe was the 550 Spyder model. However, other than his Karmann Ghia having interior elements borrowed from the Porsche counterpart, he doesn't reveal much about the changes he has done.

10. 1969 Pontiac GTO Ram Air 4

The 1968 Pontiac GTO Ram Air 4 in the Tim Allen car collection used to be a drag car. However, he modified the same and put honeycomb wheels on it. According to Tim, it is one of the best cars to drive due to variable ratio power steering and other factors.

This one also comes with the optional 4-speed manual, while the standard one comes with one less cog. A similar one in a convertible body style sold for over $120,000 by Mecum auctions.

9. 1972 Ford Bronco

One of the few cars that have managed to escape Tim's urge for mods is the 1972 Bronco. He has said that he doesn't like driving the car because its wheelbase is too short and has too big tires. However, since his wife adores it, he has kept the Bronco in his collection.

8. 1965 Jaguar E-Type

According to Tim Allen, the 1965 Jaguar E-Type is by far the best-looking car ever made. He said everything about the E-Type is delicate. This beauty under the hood carries a 4.2-liter inline-6 engine that makes 265 hp and comes mated to a 4-speed manual transmission.

A few examples that have recently sold fetched prices ranging from $53,220 to $324,500, depending on condition.

7. 2015 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R

Tim is obsessed with American muscle cars and boy oh boy he loves to modify them. He already owned a 1966 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350H before getting his hands on the GT350R. Reportedly, it is a 2015 model. Allen claims that he bought a used GT350R. At first, he just wanted to sell it away but he liked the sound of the Mustang way too much.

6. 1968 Chevrolet Camaro 427 COPO

The 1968 Chevrolet Camaro 427 COPO is one of Tim's favorite cars which he also took on the NBC show, Jay Leno's Garage. Furthermore, the one Allen owns is a one-off car that he traded with someone named Tom Sherwood who used to drive it. After getting his hands on the Camao, Tim heavily customized it and put a lot of tech in the cabin. However, he decided to keep the exterior with the 1968 Camaro look.

That said, in an auction, a regular Camaro 427 COPO model can be easily obtained in an auction for between $125,000 and $200,000. In 2023, Mecum sold one 1969 Chevrolet COPO Camaro for $117,500. Meanwhile, Tim's Camaro Restomod is estimated to have a worth of around $300,000.

5. 1950s- 1960s Porsche 356

Allen bought the Porsche 356 in the form of a trade. He jokingly mocks this Porsche calling it a "sweet little car" which is just a Volkswagen Beetle with more performance. He says it is fun to drive but is slow and cumbersome at the same time. Meanwhile, it is important to note that the exact model year of Tim Allen's 356 and its full specs are not known.

Bonham's auction house sold a 1961 Porsche 356B 1600 Super Coupe for $57,200. On the other hand, a 1958 Porsche 356 A 1600 'Super' Speedster by Reutter was auctioned by RM Sotheby for $368,000.

4. 1986 Ford RS200

The 1986 Ford RS200 is a very unique race car in the Tim Allen car collection. It is an RS200 rally race car's street version even though it is not DoT certified in the US. One time, even a cop pulled over Tim for the same reason but let him get away.

What’s even more baffling is the fact that the RS200 EVO version held the Guinness World Record for the fastest accelerating car for up to 12 years with 0-60 MPH timing of 3.07 seconds.

That said, only 200 units of the homologated RS200 were made out of which 24 received Evolution specs. Meanwhile, RM Sotheby is expecting $275,000 - $325,000 for the same RS200 model.

3. 1967 Porsche 911S SWB

Reportedly, Tim Allen also owns a silver 1967 Porsche 911S short wheelbase which is one of the two Porsches in his garage. The one in his garage is the higher-spec "S" version (where "S" means "super"), powered by a 2.0-liter inline-6 engine that makes 180 hp and 144 lb-ft of torque.

 2. 1965 Shelby Cobra

The 1965 Shelby Cobra is one of the most sought-after cars in the collector market and one is sitting in Allen's garage. His Cobra has Weber Carburetors and Halibrand wheels. Originally, the car had baby blue paint and white wall tires but Al did what he does with most of his cars, customize it. However, he doesn't go deep into what else he has changed.

The final bid is expected to be around $1 million. That said, the table above gives our specs for a 1965 Cobra 289 roadster which was auctioned by Bonhams for $880,000.

1. 1966 Ferrari 330 GTC

Allen claims that he has always loved the 330 GTC. He admires its beauty and bodywork. He also believes that these Ferraris and Porsches need to be driven hard. However, Tim also said that he doesn't drive it because he is lazy. Although, he is maintaining the car. He has changed the carburetters, replaced the coolant, and more.

Special Mentions:

2017 Ford GT

The 2017 Ford GT was bought by Tim Allen after he sold his Porsche Carrera GT. As per Tim, "In its element, I've never driven a more fantastic automobile". That's how much of a fantastic car the Ford GT is to him.

However, in a YouTube video on Petersen Automotive Museum's official channel, when Allen was giving a tour of his car collection, he was not shy of criticizing how little room was offered in the cabin.

Furthermore, he was baffled by the amount of paperwork he had to do just to get on the list of buyers for the Ford GT. Having said that, in 2021, he sold his 2017 Ford GT Super on a Bring A Trailer auction for $1 million.
