Earl Campbell’s car collection is a testament to his love for classic automobiles and his legendary football career. Featuring three meticulously restored and customized classic cars, each vehicle tells a unique story while paying homage to his time as a Texas Longhorn and Houston Oiler. 3. 1957 Chevrolet Task Force

Probably the oldest addition to the 1991 Pro Football Hall Of Fame inductee is the 1957 Chevrolet Task Force. The truck was customized, although details about when or how the modifications were made remain unavailable. The truck’s vibrant red paint and pristine condition suggest significant restoration work, aligning with Campbell’s known preference for classic vehicles that stand out. 

The truck has been a key part of a meaningful event in Campbell’s life. In 2012, he drove the truck during the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the parkway named in his honor, leading a procession of meticulously restored vehicles from the Custom Truckers club.

He also showcased the truck at the Custom Truckers' annual car show in Tyler, Texas, in 2021. Its presence at the event reflects Campbell’s passion for sharing his collection with fellow enthusiasts and fans. 

2. 1937 Chevrolet Master Coupe

Yet another classic Chevy in Earl’s garage is the customized 1937 Master Coupe. Earl purchase this car at an auction and then had it customized by restoration company. It is painted in a striking red and adorned with a gleaming chrome grille. Under the hood, the car boasts a new engine, with the engine cover featuring a tribute to Campbell’s retired jersey numbers—34 from his days with the Houston Oilers and 20 from his Texas Longhorns career.

This coupe holds a special place in Earl’s collection, not just for its looks but also for the joy it brings him. He frequently shares glimpses of it on social media. On his 66th birthday, Earl posted a picture of himself enjoying a drive in the car, captioning it, "How I Spent my 66th Birthday Cruisin my 37 Chevy 😎🌹," a testament to how this classic ride remains an integral part of his life and legacy.

1. 1949 Cadillac Series 62 Sedanette

Earl Campbell’s 1949 Cadillac Series 62 Sedanette is probably the car he’s most attached to. Earl’s connection to this vehicle began in his childhood when it was owned by a local doctor in Tyler, Texas, who made house calls and often visited the Campbell household. Young Earl was captivated every time the Cadillac pulled into his driveway. To him, it was one of the most beautiful things he had ever seen, sparking a dream that stayed with him for decades. 

In 2022, Earl turned to the talented team at Texas Metal to bring his dream car to life. He was inspired by their work on Slim Thug’s 1959 Cadillac. He admired the stance, color, and air suspension on Slim Thug’s car and wanted a similarly bold transformation. But what Earl delivered to the builders was a challenge: the original frame of the car, along with crates of disassembled parts. According to him, the previous owner had attempted to restore it but left the project incomplete. 

Earl had some stipulations with the build that the guys at Texas Metal had to follow: the car must be black, have a lot of chrome, feature an LS engine, and incorporate the burnt orange from his Texas Longhorns jersey into the interior. Beyond these requirements, he allowed the builders creative freedom.

As one can imagine, the restoration process was no small feat. The car required extensive rust repair, brand-new panels, a fresh chassis, and air suspension to achieve its sleek, low stance. Every nut and bolt was replaced, making the car essentially a brand-new 1949 Cadillac. The builders also added a Cadillac Flying Goddess hood ornament to honor the car’s classic heritage. Under the hood, they installed a powerful 454 LSX engine, ensuring the Coupe de Ville delivered the performance Earl wanted.

The interior of the car comes with black upholstery that features orange accents, with materials sourced directly from Earl’s University of Texas jerseys. These were meticulously cut and sewn by hand into the seats and other interior elements.

A Texas Longhorns logo is placed behind the rear seats near the speakers, while the custom speedometer highlights three of the most important numbers in Earl’s career: 20, his jersey number with the Texas Longhorns; 34, his jersey number with the Houston Oilers; and 91, the year he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Additional unique touches include air intakes subtly resembling the Texas Longhorns logo and Earl’s 1991 Hall of Fame medallion, which holds the two exhaust pipes together.

Earl was thrilled with the finished car and even posted pictures of it online after receiving the car and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Texas Metal for turning his 1949 Cadillac dream into a reality.
