• Born on May 24, 1941, in Duluth, Minnesota, Robert’s family belonged to a close-knit Jewish family. 
• At the age of six, his family moved to his mother’s hometown of Hibbing after his father contracted polio.
• As a young boy, Dylan enjoyed listening to rock and roll which was broadcasted on radio stations. This genre influenced the formative years of his musical career. 
• Following this exposure to music, he formed several bands while attending Hibbing High School. 
• While enrolled at the University of Minnesota, Bob Dylan lived at a Jewish-centric fraternity and performed at a coffee house near his college campus. Through this network, he was introduced to the Dinkytown folk music circuit. 
• In 1960, less than a year into his college life, he dropped out and traveled to New York to pursue his musical career further.
